A fire burns inside Captain Joel and the rest of the crew! They wake up every morning before the sun comes up on Marathon Key, and automatically start evaluating what Mother Nature has in store for their clients that day.

They look at the wind/wave speed and direction, the air and water temperature, tide times and lunar phase, barometer and pressure systems, and weather forecast. Guess they're just mad at the fish!

His business is on the water 300 days per year. Charter primarily with live bait on light tackle inshore off Marathon Key and live bait on heavy tackle offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.

A captain is as good as his bait. A captain can have all the best secret fishing holes in the world, but if he doesn’t have the right bait, he won’t catch fish. They typically cast net their bait daily. They give their anglers the choice of going with them, to experience the bait netting process or starting the charter with bait in the live well prior to pick up. Whichever suits your fancy!

Most anglers choose to get bait with them, especially since the bait is normally netted quickly and is caught on the way to your fishing spots off Marathon Key and Gulf of Mexico waters. It’s our belief, that most of the time, for every fish that’s caught on a lure, ten would have been caught while using live bait. It’s hard to fool Mother Nature. I compare it to the difference of hunting with a bow vs a rifle.

Carol, Doug, and I enjoyed our near-shore 6-hour fishing trip with Captain Joel and Ana Banana charters in Marathon. We went out past Sombrero Reef and fished for yellow tailed snapper and caught many. We targeted grouper on the bottom as well. Next we fished near the seven mile bridge for permit and yellow jacks.
