About Your Trip

Join Dom for the fishing expedition of a lifetime in the wild heart of Tanzania, where world-class freshwater fishing, luxury accommodations, and unforgettable African wildlife combine into a truly one-of-a-kind adventure. This all-inclusive journey takes place in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania's second-largest national park and one of the largest protected wilderness areas in Africa. Spanning thousands of square miles of pristine habitat, Ruaha offers a rare opportunity to experience incredible fishing in an environment that remains largely untouched by modern development.

The centerpiece of this adventure is the legendary Ruaha River and its population of trophy tigerfish. Anglers from around the world travel to Africa to pursue these aggressive predators, and for good reason. Closely related to the famous Goliath Tigerfish of the Congo Basin, the tigerfish found in Ruaha are powerful, fast, and armed with rows of razor-sharp teeth. Fish exceeding 10 pounds are common, and every cast carries the possibility of a truly memorable encounter. The preferred methods here are fly fishing and casting surface lures such as poppers, creating explosive topwater strikes that rank among the most exciting experiences in freshwater fishing.

Over multiple days, you'll explore productive stretches of river around the Msembe area, widely regarded as one of Africa's finest freshwater fisheries. While tigerfish are the primary target, anglers may also pursue a unique species of Barb that is closely related to the highly sought-after Yellowfish of southern Africa. The diversity of the fishery, combined with the remote setting, creates an experience that feels more like an expedition than a traditional fishing trip.

This is fishing in its purest form. Although you'll enjoy outstanding lodging, excellent meals, and premium amenities, the fishing itself takes place in remote wilderness where human presence is minimal. Armed game guards accompany anglers throughout the trip, allowing safe access to river systems inhabited by crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of other wildlife. It's entirely possible to spend a day fishing water where there are no other people for dozens of miles in any direction.

As remarkable as the fishing is, the wildlife viewing is equally impressive. Ruaha is famous for its enormous elephant and Cape buffalo herds, along with healthy populations of kudu, sable antelope, giraffe, zebra, and countless other species. Bird enthusiasts will be amazed by the park's more than 500 recorded bird species. Predators are abundant as well, with Ruaha supporting approximately 10 percent of the world's lion population. Leopards, cheetahs, and African wild dogs also roam these landscapes, making every day an unforgettable safari experience.

The adventure doesn't stop at the Ruaha River. Guests will also have the opportunity to travel approximately four hours southeast to the remote Usangu Plains region, where additional fishing opportunities and unique landscapes await exploration. This added component allows anglers to experience multiple fisheries and gain a broader appreciation for the incredible natural diversity of the region.

From the moment you begin planning until your return home, Dom handles the details. This trip is fully inclusive, and he can assist with lodging, meals, transportation, flights, travel logistics, and any other arrangements needed during your stay in Tanzania. The result is a seamless adventure that combines trophy tigerfish, incredible wildlife encounters, remote wilderness exploration, and the chance to experience one of Africa's most remarkable destinations in a way few travelers ever will.

Outfitter
Dominyk ("Dom") is an award-winning safari photographer and professional guide living in Arusha in Northern Tanzania. A passion for capturing memorable images of people and the natural world has taken him to more than 70 countries on six continents during the last 25 years.

As an experienced professional safari guide and tour leader, Dom leads clients on customized photographic safaris into the many world-class wilderness areas of Tanzania and to a wide range of other destinations both in Africa and
worldwide. His clients enjoy the unique added opportunity to learn the art of nature and people photography from a professional.

Born in Zambia and raised in Australia, Dom developed an early interest in the living world and started taking photos on regular trips throughout the world using equipment handed down from his father. On completion of a B.Sc. at the University of Sydney in 1996, Dom returned to the country of his birth to pursue a career as a professional safari guide and photographer in Zambia's premier wilderness area - South Luangwa National Park.

In 2001, he returned to Sydney to undertake a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science. While working as a freelance photojournalist to fund his studies, he won the coveted Yellowglen Australian Young Photographer award. Dom was once again drawn back to Africa in 2003, this time to Tanzania, to work as a community development coordinator for the Friedkin Conservation Fund and as a safari guide for partner company Ker & Downey Tanzania.

In 2006, Dominyk opened his photo gallery in Arusha – Tanzania’s first, and to this day, only photo gallery. The gallery offers original, limited-edition prints, collages and panoramas, selected from images captured on safaris.
