About Your Trip

Come airboat fly fishing with us in Central Texas!

We use an airboat to fish 10-25 miles of the Brazos River in a day. Although the airboat ride itself is a trip, the fishing is usually even better. We will stop at between 10-20 locations throughout the day and wade-fish ripples, pools, and banks.

Guests will arrive, we will load their gear if any, and hit the river. Our guided-fishing trips are between 8-9 hours
long and we provide lunch and water. We can provide all gear (fly rods, flies, etc.) except for clothing and polarized sunglasses. Guests need to arrive with weather appropriate attire. In the summer we recommend wet wading with close toed shoes and quick dry clothing; in the cooler months waders and warmer clothing is recommended.

We are typically casting 6wt-9wt rods, using floating lines and throwing top-water, if possible. We often use popper-dropper combinations and but during certain times of the day, streamer fishing can out-perform. In addition to largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, the Brazos River is loaded with buffalo, carp, and gaspergou (freshwater drum). We have had high client success rates catching the bottom-feeders on fly rods. There is also always the chance of hooking up with a striper, white bass, and catfish as well.

The flows are low on this stretch of the Brazos 95% of the year. If the flows are low, we will use an airboat; if the flows are high (too high to wade fish) we will use a jet boat or a raft. The primary fishing style is wade fishing.

Because this stretch of the river is so shallow, the only way fish large stretches of it (10+ miles) in a day, is by airboat. The shallow water, combined with poor public access, has created a stretch of river that is relatively-unpressured. To keep our fish populations healthy, we practice catch and release.

My name is Will and I operate a guide service on the Brazos River near Waco, TX. I've been fishing for 33 years and fly fishing for 18 years. After practicing law in Austin for 5 years, I started a feral hog processing company in Hubbard, TX; that company brought me up to this area and exposed me to this section of the Brazos River. I've been fortunate enough to fish all over the country and several places around the world. For bass fishing, the Brazos River between Lake Whitney and Waco is hard to beat. It is a difficult stretch of river to access due to how shallow it is and this is why we use an airboat to fish large stretches of water in a day. Because I live on the river and fish it most days, I am able to keep a pulse on how the weather, wind, and other factors affect fishing.
