About Your Trip

Enjoy an exciting fishing adventure out on the Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario with Captain Mike. This area is famous for its fantastic Lake Trout fishing, with both numbers and size of fish! In spring and in early winter the Lakers can be fished close to the mainland, in water from 30-100 feet deep. Between May and September they move further out towards deepwater flats next to humps and ridges. Typical boat ride time to reach the fish out there is 30-40 minutes, and then Captain Mike sets the boat on autopilot for trolling and gets the trolling spread going. There are typically 4 to 8 rods set in the rod holders with a variety of spoons, flashers and other attractors presented to the fish. Keep your eyes focused on the rods as one or more of them can "fire" with a fish on it at any moment! Fish on! Double! Triple! Then Captain Mike hands you the rod and the battle begins. This trip is a great birthday or Christmas gift for those in your family who like to fish, and a great experience for kids!

You will be fishing in a 23 foot Campion RAGE R22 with room for up to 4 guests. The boat's 250 hp Yamaha Vmax SHO gets you to where the fish are quickly. The RAGE is fully outfitted with downriggers, sonar electronics, rod holders, and a 60 gallon live well. A 9.9 hp kicker motor provides the thrust and a gps-guided electric trolling motor on the bow sets a course and does the steering! That means Captain Mike can concentrate on your fishing experience. A full enclosure protects against the sun or wind and keeps you comfortable all day.

All rods and tackle are provided. All you need is a valid Ontario fishing licence, whether resident or non-resident. See ontariohuntandfish.com. Check the weather for the day of your trip so that you are prepared for sun, wind and temperatures depending on time of year. Bring your favourite foods and drinks (non-alcoholic) to enjoy, and your favourite music to play on the full bluetooth sound system onboard!

You are welcome to keep fish to take home. In the spring and winter when the water is cold you can leave your cooler at the boat ramp, Through late spring and summer you need it onboard with ice as the Lake Trout won't survive in the live well. Captain Mike suggests picture and release for the big ones that are the breeding stock.

Independent Guide
Believe it or not, I have been a Queen's University Professor of Exercise Physiology for 24 yrs who has the good fortune of living in the fisherman's paradise that is the Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario. I have fished these waters for the better part of 2 decades. Early retirement is just around the corner, so I founded my charter company in 2023 as a way to help others experience the amazing fishing this area has to offer.

My mission
is to make unforgettable fishing memories with you. I do that by working hard to find and dial in the fish, changing location and lures till we hit the sweet spot. I teach you about the waters we are on, the technology and tackle we are using, and the techniques and adjustments we are making to find and catch these fish, so you can go out and do it too. Join me on my Campion Rage R22, a 23 foot fishing machine powered by a 250 HP Yamaha Vmax SHO. It is equipped with the latest electronics to home in on the fish and GPS guided steering during trolling so that we can focus on grabbing the rods when the fish hit. All gear and tackle is provided. Full enclosure for comfort in any weather, and a captain who lives to see the smile on a client's face after a memorable day of catching fish.

Everything Else to Know

For sunny days we recommend sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses. Early spring and winter requires layers of clothing and warm footwear. If you are bringing a child, I recommend you bring their personal floatation device. Bring a cooler with ice for the fish you keep. Captain Mike can clean the fish on board if needed.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
