About Your Trip

Welcome aboard the Dauntless, your vessel for adventure and unforgettable experiences in the Florida Keys! With Dauntless Excursions, every trip is designed to match your unique saltwater cravings. Here’s what’s waiting for you:

Reef FishingFun on Light and Medium Tackle

* We'll be fishing at the reef approximately 5-6 miles out from shore, but may also drift fish a wreck or two depending on the length of trip.
* Anchoring and chumming for snappers is
the core focus. We'll bottom fish at the same time for fun bottom feeders like grouper and mutton snapper or other hungry reef roamers. There are a LOT of different species that may take the bait on any of the tackle we use and we'll use both cut and live bait to tempt them.

What make the Dauntless different for this type of trip is that it is the perfect vessel in-between a center console and the large sportfish boats (actually referred to as a walk-around style boat):

- better ride in sporty seas than boats of similar size, with protection from the elements if a rain cloud passes over our fishing spot.
- lots of shade to get out of the sun and for those just tagging along
- a cabin for changing and a stand-up head (meaning you don't have to squish into a crawl space to use a porta-potti).
- music with chill tropical vibes or you can bluetooth your playlist

There will also be the standard amenity to include a cooler with ice for whatever beverages you choose to bring with you (but no glass!). Any fish you catch will be cleaned for you (filleting only, no descaling).

Group size is limited to four for the most opportunity for everyone to fish, but if your group is larger with non-fishing guests, the Dauntless can take up to six.

And side note - If you want to do more than fish, like snorkel the sanctuary, try your hand and lobstering, or hang out at a sandbar, check out the listing for combo trips and customize your experience.

Fishing the reef is a ton of fun; your day will be filled with the best of Keys life. Whether it's fishing for dinner or you prefer catch-and-release, this trip is all about fun and making memories.

I originally came to the Florida Keys to expand my business, including buying a larger boat for chartering and to more fully enjoy being out on the water. I particularly love reef fishing and lobstering. I'm a bit of an adventure junkie, always looking to explore and enjoy what the Keys has to offer. What makes it even better is sharing the fun and adventure with others.

How I came to be where I am today is quite the story,
but the short version is having a lifetime of boating in my blood and salt water in my veins. I spent 20 years working in large corporations in human resources with chartering as mostly a side gig until I opted for a better life and followed the bouncing ball to the lower Keys in Florida. I have been operating my latest boat for a number of years now out of Stock Island, just spitting distance from downtown Key West, an ideal starting point for a wide variety of activities.

On every trip guests are greeted by first mate Siba, a Parson Russell Terrier, who is a bit of an attention hog and an active snorkel and fishing watchstander. She'll otherwise be as chill as the casual vibe you'll find.

When you book a trip you'll get the standard auto-reply message but also a personal message from the captain, usually within 12 hours of booking, just to touch base, more quickly if it's a short-notice booking. If you booked well in advance, we'll be touching base a day or so before the trip with a reminder on everything you need to know to be prepared.

Once at the dock and aboard the boat, a quick safety spiel covers everything you need to know to have a safe and enjoyable trip, and then we're off to start the adventure.
