About Your Trip

The Canyon Lake Dam and the cold water released from the reservoir mark the start of the lower Guadalupe River and the roughly 16 mile section of trophy trout water. The waters are stocked by both Texas Parks and Wildlife and Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited from late fall to late winter. This section is the southernmost trout fishery in the United States and considered one of the top 100 trout fisheries the U.S. Differing from some of the other stocked rivers, the Guadalupe is known for the abundance of trophy sized trout, 15”-20+”. We provide both half day and full day float trips on this river. We focus on sections below the lake and near the town of New Braunfels off of river road. Half day trips are 4-5 hours and a full day is 8 hours with lunch included. Water and snacks are also provided on both trips.

The trip will consists of floating several miles of river- getting to experience all the sights and wildlife the river has to offer that day. Floating in an inflatable drift boat raft with the latest nrs fishing frame. The frame includes two comfortable padded swivel seats for the cleints as well as standing platforms and lean bars. The boat holds two anglers plus the guide who will be rowing the boat down the river. We will be targeting rainbow trout using 5 weight fly rods drifting flies in the current under a strike indicator.

I have been guiding in the Texas Hill Country for nearly a decade but have had the fortune of growing up fishing and navigating the limestone waterways since I was a young boy. My uncle has had property on the upper Guadalupe River for over 25 years and I went to school at Texas State for the reason that the San Marcos River flows through part of campus! I love sharing my knowledge and passion with everyone and am happy to teach new fly anglers, all experience levels are welcome!

Independent Guide
Ryan Schaper’s love for the outdoors started very young when he learned how to fish around age 3. He grew up fishing the lakes and rivers of south and central Texas; teaching himself and soaking up anything he could learn about bass and catfishing. In college, he worked as the manager of an outdoor recreational store, which opened the door to kayaking and fly fishing. Ryan continues to enjoy fly fishing for bass, many other warm water species, and trout, but has grown a special interest in fly fishing for common carp over the past few years. In 2019, Ryan was crowned the Texas Carp King for the Texas Fly Carpers United Tournament by catching 448.5 inches worth of carp throughout the 3 series tournament. After many years of fly fishing the rivers of central Texas, as well as the Texas coast, fishing has become a lifestyle for Ryan. He is a wealth of knowledge not only about fish and fishing, but the history and geology of our landscape, and what makes the outdoors of central Texas so special.

Everything Else to Know

Be dressed for the weather. Waders are not necessary but can be helpful for insulation if the weather is cold. Polarized sunglasses help a lot, need appropriate foot apparel/ shoes for walking along riverside banks- rocks and gravel.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
