For anglers who want to experience the best of both worlds, Captain Dave’s 5-hour back bay and nearshore combo trip offers the perfect mix of action, scenery, and flexibility. Departing at 7:00 AM, this trip covers the shallow waters of Assawoman Bay and the nearshore shoals just off Ocean City’s beaches, giving you the opportunity to chase a wide variety of fish and adjust with the tides to stay on the bite.

You’ll start the morning working the calm waters of the back bay, casting around the bridges, jetties, and channel edges. From there, you’ll head just off the beach to fish the nearshore shoals, where you'll target everything from King and Spanish Mackerel to Black Seabass and Bluefish. If the wind picks up, no problem—this trip is built for flexibility. Instead of canceling, you’ll simply spend more time in the back bay where the water stays protected and productive. With plenty of space for up to six passengers, it’s a great option for families and especially fun for kids.

Expect to use a variety of light tackle techniques, including bottom fishing, spinning, trolling, and jigging. Depending on the time of year and water conditions, you might hook into Striped Bass, Black Drum, Flounder, Sheepshead, Atlantic Mackerel, or even the occasional Thresher Shark. Captain Dave knows how to read the water and move with the tides, giving you the best chance at a successful and exciting day.

You’ll fish aboard a 26’ custom-designed MayCraft center console, equipped with new canvas, fresh upholstery, and powered by a 2024 Suzuki 350hp outboard. Onboard electronics include dual Garmin GPS units, a high-resolution LiveScope fishfinder, Garmin radar, and a wireless Garmin Kraken trolling motor with Spot Lock. There’s a live bait well for fresh bait, outriggers for trolling, and a Yeti cooler stocked with ice and water—ready for your food and drinks.

Everything you need for a great day is provided. Captain Dave supplies all rods, reels, and tackle—featuring quality Penn gear—along with any live bait you’ll need, either prepped in advance or caught during the trip. All lures and terminal tackle are included, and your fishing license is covered under the boat’s charter license. First Mate Frank will be on board to help with rigging, fishing tips, and ensuring you’re following all local regulations. Once back at the dock, cleaning and filleting services are available courtesy of the OC Fishing Center staff.

Come prepared with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, snacks or breakfast, and drinks. Alcohol is welcome in moderation, but please leave hard liquor, glass bottles, and—yes—bananas at home. It may be a superstition, but we’re not taking any chances.

All gear is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 7 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 7 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
