Inshore fishing has remained consistent with the higher than normal wind conditions we have experienced over the past few weeks. I have been focusing on the backcountry channels and flats targeting Mangrove Snapper, Mackerel, Speckled Trout and Goliath Grouper. Snapper fishing has been very good producing catches in the 2-4lb range on a consistent basis with some larger fish in the mix. While targeting these Snapper I have also been dropping a big bait down for Goliath Grouper that provides excitement for all aboard. These fish have been averaging from 30lb to well over 100lbs and provide an ultimate battle on stand up gear, catching a couple of these Grouper is not uncommon. The Spanish and Cero Mackerel and a few Speckled Trout have been making their appearance as the water temps cool slightly. All of these species will continue to improve with the water cooling and the weather settling into our winter season. I encourage everyone to experience some of the best inshore fishing the Florida Keys has to offer this winter, multiple species that are readily available and fishing the backcountry provides opportunities even when it's windy.

We had a little wind and rain but nothing too crazy. Missed 4 days of being on the water. Here is a little report and some recent pics from our 35' offshore..... This month was a real mixed bag on our 24’ trolling, bottom fishing, reefs, backcountry, and lobster territory. Bottom fishing in the shallow/ calm backcountry has produced some high quality mangrove, lane, and mutton snappers in large numbers. Some trips catching their allowed limits. No shortage of big 100lb + lemon sharks that you’ll need to race for your dinner. Nicer weather days we have fished on the patch reefs just south of Key West. Red grouper, yellowtail snapper, and a verity of types of mackerel. Even did a catch n cook woth spadefish (a first for me). If you have lobster on your mind, well so do we! Many of our shallow water honey holes have been picked clean this late in the season. 6hr + lobster trips gave us enough time to run 20+ miles to areas with less pressure and they are still housing some quality bugs.

My wife and I and 13 year old son went on a six hour spearfishing tour with Torre and it was by far the highlight of our trip to the Keys. We ended up with a fridge full of lobster, snapper, cero mackerel and yellow jack and we turned it into sashimi, ceviche, lobster macaroni and beer battered fish. We saw hammerheads, goliath groupers and sea turtles. My wife and I had never spear fished before but we had a great time; much better than fishing. Torre was an amazing guide and clearly knew where to go and what to look for. Next time we’re in the Keys, this will be our first stop.
