My home rivers are closed now for the rest of winter steelhead season. They will open Memorial Day weekend for summer steelhead. I am transitioning to the Cowlitz river in my my jet sled with room for up to 4 fishermen, and the Kalama river in my driftboat with room for 2. I've been intermittently fishing the Kalama river over the last few weeks with average to good fishing. I will be fishing these rivers till mid- late March. Then I'll be fishing the lower Columbia River near Longview Washington for the famed Spring Chinook through the lower river closure...

We were given a one day keeper sturgeon on February 16th. Had a great crew out and they will be going home with some sturgeon. I'm not sure when or if we will get another keeper day this year. But we can always catch and release these fun hard fighting fish.

Lingcod and rockfish have been excellent off the Oregon coast out of Garibaldi, Oregon. We have been getting limits of Lingcod and rockfish. The ocean has been beautiful out for January. Swimbaits, shrimp flys and herring have been our ticket to catching these fish.

Here are some photos and report from yesterday.

Crabbing continues to be excellent out of Hammond,Oregon. Easy limits of Dungeness crab. We are getting some jumbo crab. It doesn't get any better than this. Hammond is located 8 miles west of Astoria,Oregon.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all at Captains experience and you family. Hope for a good 2026 fishing season. I will post more pictures and reports in 2026

Crabbing continues to be excellent out of Hammond,Oregon. Easy limits of Dungeness crab. We are getting some jumbo crab. It doesn't get any better than this. Hammond is located 8 miles west of Astoria,Oregon.

Fishing in Astoria Oregon on the ocean and lower Columbia River. River trophy sturgeon is on and the fishing is great. Lots of big fish. This is a ton of action and fish average 5' and close to a 100lbs. Catch and release Salmon is open in the ocean. Lots of fish showing up. Pic of nice chinook today. Both coho and chinook are available. It'll stay steady and just get better.

Lots of fun left to be had winter steelhead fishing. With rain in the forecast, we should see a fresh push of fish. We also have some spring chinooks starting to show up in our rivers. So be sure to get out this spring for some of the best-tasting salmon on the planet.
