As the winter fades away unfortunately so do the schools of red fish. With the water Temps rising the fish will start scattering around the bank lines and mangroves. This time of year I call the transition period. So we throw paddle tails pop n corks with live shrimp top...

This time of year I call the transition period. So we throw paddle tails pop n corks with live shrimp top water plugs and multiple artificial baits along banks. Also live mullet and chunck mullet or lady fish.

Mosquito Lagoon has continued to produce good quantities of slot reds along with an occasional Bull. But these recent fu moon phases have been key in bringing the gator Trout up on the flats to spawn. Two days ago we had 8 trout between 20 and 25". Largest for the...

Mosquito Lagoon has continued to produce good quantities of slot reds along with an occasional Bull. But these recent fu moon phases have been key in bringing the gator Trout up on the flats to spawn. Two days ago we had 8 trout between 20 and 25". Largest for the year so far has been 29". This will continue through June. In the Ponce Inlet area still seeing good quantities of sheepshead and flounder with regular hookups of bull reds and black drum. In the next couple weeks we will be starting the evening trips fishing the causeways in New Smyrna Beach for Snook and Tarpon.

On and off, Up and down, hot and cold, all opposites, all antonyms, all ways to describe the way fishing has been for the last several weeks. There have been good days with some catches of trout and reds and there have been some great days of reeling in some 30-40 lb. Drum. But there have also been some days where I wished I would have stayed home. All in all the tide is turning and there's going to be some better days ahead. The live bait is changing and the fish will be jumping.

We have a very consistent trout bite with the current size ranging from 15"-21" along with a few kicker fish over 24". The snook have come out of the freeze pretty strong and we are catching good numbers of 18"-25" snook in creeks and canals where the water is warmer....

We have a very consistent trout bite with the current size ranging from 15"-21" along with a few kicker fish over 24". The snook have come out of the freeze pretty strong and we are catching good numbers of 18"-25" snook in creeks and canals where the water is warmer. Out on the flats we are having a fantastic season for redfish. My clients can expect 20 shots in a half day of fishing but the fish are challenging! The shallow winter pattern combined with crystal clear water will test any anglers abilities who targets them. They're a great warm up for bone fishing! We are getting shots at singles and schools of up to 50 fish. The average size for the redfish is getting better as well with most fish over 24" and some of the reds on the flats are over 30". They're a fly fisherman's dream!

Sheephead bite is still strong all over port orange and ponce. Use A jighead with a fiddler crab or a fish finder rig with fresh shrimp. Larger Snook and reds are in the shallows, but with the front coming at the end of the week, it will dirty the water...

Sheephead bite is still strong all over port orange and ponce. Use A jighead with a fiddler crab or a fish finder rig with fresh shrimp. Larger Snook and reds are in the shallows, but with the front coming at the end of the week, it will dirty the water and make it hard to find and catch them. I've been using medium to large shrimp and 3" mud minnows and finger mullet on a 1/8 oz jighead or just free lining them. Night fishing has been great for trout and smaller snook along the docks free lining live shrimp and mullet.
