African Pompano, Amberjack, Mahi Mahi
As the seasons change, we are awaiting the arrival of the winter fish—especially Sailfish! The typical fall patterns of late season Mahi and Blackfin Tunas are still in the area. The Florida Keys had very little damage and are up and running!

Fishing report from Brad B.

Tuna just now showing up, but it's still hard to predict, same as sails and dorado, we focus on the amberjack, and other target species that are still in season, such as swordfish, and Mangrove, vermillion snapper, always hope for the fish of a lifetime! Looking to book for some overnight trips for yellowfin and marlin 100+ miles offshore.

Amberjack
The amberjack bite has been on fire as well as Almaco Jacks, Triggerfish are running small so hooking up with a keeper trigger has been a chore! Plenty of Vermillion snapper and Porgy's around though. Trolling has been hit or miss, depending on the current some days we catch 6 and some days they aren't hitting! The blackfin are on the move as the water temp starts to drop they are moving closer inside of state waters! King mackerel have been the main ones we have been hooking up with on the shotgun trolling! Red snapper are everywhere but out of season for us!

Not really doing a whole lot at this time with school back in session.
We were out this past Saturday and mugged up on nice flounder. We were throwing back over sized fish, which was painful. The key was making short drifts over the structure and working it hard. When the bite stops, hit the next piece. The fluke have turned on just in time for them to go out of season on the 27th.
The back bays are alive with peanut bunker, spearing, and some mullet. When you can get anything to actually bite there are stripers and weakies around. Small blues too. But the bite is very spotty with all the bait. But worth the effort. Fun times are ahead. Sea bass will be opening soon. And tog is just around the corner. As are the stripers. Come on Fall!

The weather this time of the year is very moody, but the fish are still biting. there’s plenty of vermilion snapper and white snapper to be found. In the deep water, grouper and tile fish doing pretty good as well, and the tuna fishing is about to get red hot.

Amberjack, Grunt, False Albacore
Late summer/early fall fishing is starting to heat up. Getting a weather window to make the trip out has been a challenge. However, when able to get offshore, we are catching a variety of species with the second half of trigger fish season open and now Amberjack opening back, I expect a lot of great offshore catches over the next few weeks. Deep drop fishing for vermillion snapper, porgies, and various grouper species has been on fire. For those who like our top water action, the waters have been boiling with skipjacks and Mahi. Now is the time to get out there and catch them up before they move out to their winter waters.

July fishing off the coast of fort Lauderdale had it’s ups and it’s downs butt all in all it was a good month for catching.
We had a real hard time fishing due to all the sea weed in the ocean. This was one of the toughest months we have had in a long time trying to fish and trying our best to keep the seaweed off our baits.
But at the end of the month looking back while yep the seaweed was a real pain the fishing was actually pretty good.
The tunas were biting well all month along with a few Wahoo’s.
One new thing we tried just to get around the sea weed was anchoring up in front of a ship wreck and WOW it paid off for us with some great bottom fishing along with a couple of sailfish.
Also found a Cuban raft floating! Coast Guard had marked it so they must have gotten everyone off?
So the sea weed actually helped and made us think out side of the box and went back to basics and fished like we did way back when.

The red snapper bite has been steady but you have to put up some effort to find the sizes you need for the box. Trigger fish has opened and are plentiful but lots of smalls mixed in which is normal but not so bad. The mahi's are crazy good at the moment and anything you find floating in the water is full of fish including triple tails. The vermilion snapper have come off their full moon spawn and are really biting well , squid or salted northern mackerel will do the trick. Kings are good this year and still going . Amber jacks are closed so you know will catch them one after the other. There is no blue water very close here in our neck of the woods so the trolling is kind of slow.
Inshore is never great in August because of the heat but Captain Jake is catching some redfish and trout along with flounder and mangrove snapper. The Spanish mackerel are still good as long as the bait is here.
