Inshore fishing and backcountry fishing has been extremely productive, averaging 30 fish days and the cooler water has redfish, trout and big snook fired up. The nearshore wrecks are holding good numbers of mangrove snapper and sheepshead with some spanish mackerel mixed in Weather has been ideal and looks to stay that way for the next few weeks. Definitely a great time of year to get on the water

Speckled Trout Fishing Heating Up These past few days on the water has been awsome. The water has cooled down some and the trout are biting. The trips have been getting numbers of 30 and 40 speckled trout with plenty of keepers for the dinner table. Rigging the rods with 10 pound Fins braided line with a slip cork, 20 pound floracarbon leader and a Eagleclaw 1/0 circle sea hook with a live shrimp has been great. The bite has been good on artificial baits too using the Bass Assasson Sea Shad in the lighter colors. There also have been some nice redfish being caught in the mix. Finding the structure such as oyster beds and pilons have been the ticket to getting on these fish

The bay fishing has been decent throughout the past couple of weeks and the weather has been great. Catching limits of speckled trout on soft plastic artificial baits. The color changes around South Padre are holding speckled trout and redfish. Try finding some baitfish in an area and the gamefish will be nearby. Redfishing has been better on those high wind days. Have spotted several schools of redfish on certain days. I would expect the bite to remain decent as long as the warmer weather conditions remain good.

I put the boat back in the water this morning and took my wife Jill and her good friend April out fishing didn't have to go very far. We were fishing live shrimp under a popping cork with an 1/8 ounce jig. We fished for a couple hours. The wind started blowing pretty hard but we caught three really nice red fish, a bunch of nice keeper trout and a big girl. She was 26 or 27 inches. we took a couple pictures of her and released her right back in to the lower Laguna Madre so somebody else can catch her. The redfish are starting to school up and move into the shallows. If anybody would like to get on some of this action, please get a hold of me.
