Water is warming up here in the Forgotten Coast bringing a number of new opportunities to the table. Spanish Mackerel, Jacks, and bluefish are crashing our flats, with opportunities for some light tackle drag screaming action. Tripletail are starting to stack up on the structure in the bay and close to shore, making this fine table fare quite accessible. They will eagerly offer to any soft plastic, fly or live bait sent their direction. And as summer continues to heat up, our premier summer target will be taking all of our focus, the silver king. These fish grace us with the opportunity to tackle one of the worlds premier game fish on fly or conventional tackle. Be sure to get your trips booked soon as dates are filling up fast for tarpon fishin!

Spring into summer by fishing in Tampa Bay! Charter fishing in the last month in Tampa Bay is about as good as it gets as far as plenty of action plenty of great fish to catch and plenty of options for our local fish and we have migrating species invading our local waters. With the warming waters we get large schools of cigar minnows, hard tails, blue runners, and threadfin herring with that brings king fish, sharks, Spanish mackerel, Bonita, and even sailfish and blackfin tuna. Our inshore fishing has been on fire our customers have found redfish and large speckled trout with plenty of snook in the last month, and we are seeing more and more tarpon showing up with every passing moon so it's time to grip that rod reel just a little bit tighter and be ready for those silver kings to come a calling. I don't really expect any real changes except for more tarpon and sharks in the weeks to come so tight lines until next time. -Captain Phil

The redfish bite has been on! Was using artificial baits until today, they started hitting live menhaden. The wind has been out of the east, it came around west/ northwest last night but it didn't seem to bother the bite. Here is a couple pictures from the last couple days.

Inshore fishing report- schools of Spanish mackerel can still be found on the incoming tide near the Destin pass and along the beaches, along with a few pompano and whiting in the surf. Red Fish are being caught near the Destin bridge on the outgoing tide along with the Destin Jetty’s. The speckled sea trout bite has been slim to none, but the Best Bite has been early morning on grass beds using live bait. Near shore, fishing report- Rocks and reefs are holding lots of amber jacks, red snappers triggerfish in a variety of other reef species. King Mackerel are starting to show up along with Bonitas.

The spring migration of bait and the gamefish that follow the bait as it influxes into the Lower Laguna Madre is starting now. Catching solid redfish and speckled trout on both artificial baits and fresh cut bait. The windier days in the spring can make for some productive redfish trips. That wind gets everything stirred up and those redfish get hungry. Catching speckled trout along shallow bars next to deeper water transitions, as the sun gets higher those specks will tend to move into adjacent deeper waters. Try natural looking plastics that resemble the real bait. Fresh ballyhoo and mullet cut up and pitched down wind are also producing some redfish action along the grass flats near South Padre Island.

Spring is king, but beach season is here as the gobbles wind down and crawfish disappear. It’s now time to turn on your Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney playlist and comes sit on the world’s most beautiful beaches! Top water trout has really proven to be the best way to catch big keeper trout with this spring being especially good. Schooling reds in the shallows have been regular visitors by my boat but with ultra clear water they are turning their nose up at lots of baits. Over slot (over 27”) fish have been very available cruising the flats so expect a big fight when you can get one of these pumpkins to eat. We have lots to look forward too and it seems like this will be a summer to remember. So go grab a boat drink and a slice of key lime pie and come catch a few on the Emerald Coast.

Month of May means east winds. Clear clean water is being pushed in from the Gulf, bringing in trophy size jack crevalle on the troll as well as king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and bonita fish. Other fish coming in are big red drum and speckle trout on live finger sized mullet.
