So whether you want to fish, snorkel or just enjoy a trip on Captain Pepi's boat (or a combination of all 3!), this is the perfect activity to do with kids, family or a group of friends. The waters of the West Coast of Puerto Rico are known as the Mona Passage, where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean. The fishing in Rincon is world class: ESPN's Billfish Extreme Release League rated Western Puerto Rico as #3 in the world for Blue Marlin fishing. The tuna, wahoo and mahi-mahi fishing is top-notch as well. The nearby deep sea waters are warm, clear and blue water and make for excellent fishing throughout the whole year! Rates include tackle and refreshments (water and soda). Feel free to bring your food or snacks, there is enough cooler space for anything you might want to keep cold. While this trip isn't nessecarily a grocery run to fill the freezer, Captain Pepi has no problem sharing the catch. You will always be able to take enough fish to eat for yourselves and your traveling party. He can also help make arrangements with local restaurants in town to have your catch cooked for you once you're back at the dock. Captain Pepi recommends you dress in light clothing, cap/visor and boat shoes/sandals are alsi recommended. He usually keep enough sunblock on the boat, but if you wish you can also bring your own. In terms of things you should not bring: No bananas will be allowed onboard! This is an old fishing superstition, but take my word for it, there may be some truth to it. Please no hard-soled shoes on the boat either (rubber tennis shoes are fine). You may bring beverages or beer, but no glass bottles please. Also, please bring sunscreen, but no spray sunscreen as it causes the deck to become slippery. What are the most popular months to go fishing in La Parguera?

Fishing in La Parguera, Puerto Rico, is a year-round activity, with each season offering its own unique opportunities. The peak fishing season typically runs from April to October, when the weather is warm and the waters are calm. During these months, both inshore and offshore fishing can be highly productive. Inshore fishing is particularly favorable as species like snook, tarpon, and bonefish are more active and feeding aggressively. Offshore, this period is ideal for targeting larger game fish such as mahi-mahi, wahoo, and tuna, as these species migrate through the area.

The cooler months from November to March also offer excellent fishing opportunities, although the conditions can be more variable. While the temperatures are milder, and the waters can be slightly rougher, this period can still be rewarding for anglers. Inshore, you can still find species like snook and jacks, though they may be less active compared to the peak season. Offshore fishing during this time can be productive as well, particularly for tuna, which are known to be more prevalent in the cooler months.

Overall, La Parguera's fishing conditions are favorable throughout the year, with different species becoming more active at various times. The combination of a stable climate and diverse marine environments ensures that anglers can enjoy fishing regardless of the season. Whether you're interested in inshore fishing in the mangroves and lagoons or venturing offshore for big game fish, La Parguera provides a range of options for a successful fishing experience any time of the year.

What types of fishing are popular in La Parguera?

Fishing in La Parguera, Puerto Rico, offers a range of techniques suited to its diverse marine environments. Inshore fishing is particularly popular in this area, with anglers utilizing various methods to target species like snook, tarpon, and bonefish. Light tackle fishing is effective for these species, allowing for a more delicate presentation of bait and lures. Fly fishing is also a popular technique in the shallow waters of the lagoon and mangroves, where anglers can use well-placed flies to entice fish. These methods are ideal for navigating the intricate waterways and targeting fish that are active in these productive, shallow habitats.

Offshore fishing in La Parguera provides a different set of opportunities and techniques. Trolling is a widely used method for targeting larger game fish such as mahi-mahi, wahoo, and tuna. This technique involves dragging bait or lures behind a moving boat, covering a large area to attract these pelagic species. This method is particularly useful for fishing around the underwater structures and reefs found in deeper waters.

In addition to these common techniques, La Parguera offers opportunities for night fishing, particularly for species like tarpon. Fishing under the cover of darkness can provide a different experience and often yields exciting results as these fish become more active at night. Recent Reviews of Captain Experiences

  • ★★★★★
Our guide and captain were great in Puerto Rico, which is why I’m giving it 5 stars. I do not want our confusing/stressful experience to reflect poorly on the people we actually worked with. Our issues were with the parent company “Captain Experiences.” They were not knowledgeable on fishing license needs; I only asked about fishing licenses to verify what I read on their website because it was a bit contradictory. I was provided the wrong answer by someone at Captain Experiences, and was only given the correct info after I screenshot their website and emailed it to them. Also, the directions to the pick up location were not clear. Any other fishing tour we have gone on, the captain makes contact prior to the trip to make sure everything is taken care of. We were given the name of the Puerto Rican company’s owner not the captain and guide. Needless to say, my husband and children were very stressed before we located Franco and Petine (who were great and knew nothing about our issues). Located them at 7:26, with trip starting at 7:30. My son caught a good sized white marlin and my daughter had a fish get off the hook. Again, Franco and Petine were great. The issue is communication and clarity prior to the trip.

Frank maintained contact up to the day of the Charter. Arrived on time and well prepared. He was knowledgeable of the area and was a great experience. We caught tuna, wahoo, barracuda, red hind grouper, yellow jack, and trumpet fish. Definitely recommend Frank.

Captain Angel and his crew mate were fantastic they worked very hard to put us on fish but it didn’t work out. One high point was when we returned to the marina Captan Angel spotted some Tarpon so he baited a rod and tossed it in and then let my 7 year old Grandson reel it in. He was really excited to fight that tarpon and talked about it all night. Thank you Captain Angel for your kindness.

A great day on the water with a view of Old San Juan in the back ground. Boat was fully out fitted and the Captain and mate work like a well oiled machine. Great gear, fully stocked cooler, and and fish on. What more can you say?
