Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

What techniques are popular for jetty fishing in Texas City?

Jetty fishing in Texas City, Texas, offers anglers a variety of techniques and strategies to target a wide range of fish species that inhabit the Gulf Coast waters near the jetties. One popular method is bottom fishing, ideal for species like redfish, black drum, and sheepshead. Anglers typically use Carolina rigs or fishfinder rigs baited with shrimp, squid, or cut bait to entice these bottom-dwelling fish. This approach involves casting near the rocky structures of the jetties and allowing the bait to settle on or near the seabed, where these species are commonly found feeding on crustaceans and small fish.

Live bait fishing is also highly effective in Texas City's jetty fishing scene, particularly for targeting larger game fish such as tarpon, king mackerel, and cobia. Live shrimp, mullet, and menhaden are popular choices, presented either free-lined or with a weighted rig to reach desired depths. This method allows anglers to capitalize on the natural movement and scent of live bait, which can be irresistible to predatory fish patrolling the waters around the jetties.

Artificial lures play a significant role in jetty fishing in Texas City, especially for species like speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, and snook. Casting spoons, jigs, and soft plastics allows anglers to cover more water and mimic the movements of small baitfish or shrimp, triggering strikes from active predators. Varying retrieval speeds and techniques can be crucial in matching the fish's feeding behavior and environmental conditions. Whether targeting near the surface or along the rocky bottom, the versatility of artificial lures makes them a preferred choice for anglers looking to engage in an active and rewarding fishing experience at Texas City's jetties.

Capt Jonathan's experience & knowledge put us on over 2 dozen bull Reds on a day made for duck hunting, with rain 🌧 bands most of the trip. But like a good Capt, Jonathan knows not to fear the wind but to instead uses it as an advantage by fishing the consealed wind blown areas where the winds push the bait to the fish. DON'T Fear the Wind and DON'T pass up a fishing trip with Capt Jonathan. God Bless and Tight Lines.

Captain Meghan's fishing trip started at 12:30 Aug 8 and we knew it would be hot but it was easier for us to take a late trip. CAPTAIN Trenton met us on time at the dock. Directions and all details were provided be email and text the day before. Pedro assisted Captain Trenton on our trip. They both showed us where to store our snacks and drinks. We stopped in the marina to buy live bait and ice and more drinks. Both Captain Trenton and Pedro told us to stay hydrated and let them know if we did not feel well due to motion or heat. They also said we could stand under the shade. They were frequently making sure our 6 year old granddaughter was feeling ok. They made sure we all had the opportunity to reel in fish and they navigated to new places when we were not getting bites. They helped teach our granddaughter to reel in fish, holding the rod with her. The sharks and rays were very heavy. We caught some and a few were too big to get in the boat. It was lots of fun for all 3 of us. Two of us got in the water beside the boat to cool off.. when we returned. Captain cleaned our fish, took pictures for us and packaged our filets to take home. This was the best adventure for our Galveston vacation. The Captain and Pedro were great in all aspects of the trip. Both were kind, helpful, courteous and pleasant. Captain told us to call in the future to find out how the fishing is going when we are ready to take our next trip. Theboat was in excellent condition and was cleaned up immediately when we returned. They take good care of all the equipment. We never had any difficulty at all during the trip. We highly recommend Captain Meghan's fishing trips, and Captain Trenton and Pedro.

Captain Blake was amazing, he put us on big fish early in the morning and we caught fish the entire time we were out. He was super patient with my 9 year old grandson and 83 year old father. We caught some really big Reds, 2 of which we had to tag, lots of drum including the 2 trophies we had to catch and release of 32 & 40 inches. He will be our Captain of choice for future trips. He exceeded my expectations by miles.

Captain Cody took my son and me out on a Friday morning. We caught a variety of fish including redfish, sheephead, flounder, speckled trout, black drum, and golden grouper (see photos). My son and I are a couple of novices. Cody was super patient with us. He helped us bait hooks, get lines untangled, remove pesky hardheads, etc. without ever seeming frustrated with us. He cleaned our fish the way we wanted. He took the time to teach us several tricks for catching fish. Overall it was a great experience and we plan to use him again in the future.
