About Your Trip

Climb aboard with Captain Doug for a fun-filled half-day backcountry adventure exploring the scenic waters of the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay! Based out of Saluda and serving Virginia’s Northern Neck—including Lancaster, Middlesex, and Gloucester Counties—Captain Doug offers a relaxed, family-friendly trip perfect for anglers of all experience levels. Whether you're staying locally or vacationing at Grey’s Point or Beth Page Campground, Captain Doug can even pick you up dockside for added convenience.

This trip
is limited to up to 4 anglers, making it a great choice for small groups or families looking to enjoy a more intimate day on the water. You’ll be targeting Redfish and Speckled Trout, two of the most popular inshore species in the region. These fish are not only fun to catch but put up a good fight and make for excellent table fare. And don’t be surprised if something unexpected shows up on your line—these backwaters are full of surprises!

You’ll be fishing from Captain Doug’s 26’ Pathfinder bay boat, a comfortable and well-equipped ride powered by a 300 HP Yamaha engine. Designed to navigate shallow bays and winding riverbanks with ease, the boat is outfitted with top-tier equipment including GPS, fishfinder, radar, outriggers, live bait well, and a wireless trolling motor for stealthy approaches. There’s even a fighting chair if you want to settle in for battle, and an ice box to keep your drinks and catch nice and cold.

Depending on the conditions and your preferences, you’ll use a variety of techniques including light tackle casting, jigging, and popping to tempt these inshore gamefish. Captain Doug will guide you through it all and make sure everyone on board has a shot at success. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or introducing your kids to fishing for the first time, he’s got the patience and experience to make it a great time.

Your trip includes all rods, reels, tackle, live bait, fishing licenses, and even catch cleaning and filleting at the end of the day. A friendly and knowledgeable first mate will be along to help you get lines in the water and fish in the boat—so you can focus on the fun.

With over 35 years of fishing experience and a USCG captain’s license since 2015, Captain Doug combines deep knowledge with a friendly, laid-back attitude that keeps guests coming back year after year.

If you're looking for a relaxed and rewarding fishing trip in some of Virginia’s most beautiful backcountry waters, this half-day trip with Captain Doug is just the ticket.
