About Your Trip

Experience one of Washington’s most iconic salmon runs with Captain James on the Hanford Reach, targeting hard-fighting Fall Chinook (King Salmon) from September through October. This section of the Columbia River—just 10–15 minutes south of Desert Aire near the Vernita Bridge—is known for its consistent action, big fish, and beautiful desert river scenery.

With over 30 years of experience and a lifetime spent chasing salmon throughout the Pacific Northwest, Captain James brings the expertise, gear,
and local knowledge needed to put you on fish and keep you there.

What You’ll Target

- Fall Chinook (King Salmon) – powerful, aggressive, and a thrill to catch
- Other seasonal possibilities include Coho, Sockeye, Steelhead, and more

These kings are known for their size and strength, and the Hanford Reach is one of the last free-flowing sections of the Columbia—offering a unique and highly productive fishery for both locals and visitors.

Fishing Style:

Using a combination of trolling and spinning techniques, Captain James will guide you through the deep slots and traveling lanes where fall kings stage and push upriver. He’ll dial in the right presentation based on water temps, flows, and fish behavior—maximizing your chances at landing one of these trophy salmon.

The Boat:

You’ll fish from a 24’ Alumaweld sportfishing boat, powered by a 250HP Yamaha and equipped with GPS, fishfinder, and plenty of room for up to six anglers. Built for stability and comfort, this boat is ideal for covering water efficiently while offering a solid platform for battling big kings.

What’s Included

- Rods, reels, tackle, and lures
- Fish cleaning and filleting
- Safety gear and all onboard amenities
- All you need to bring is a valid Washington fishing license with Columbia River endorsements, your favorite food and drinks, and weather-appropriate gear.

The Hanford Reach fall run is short but intense—and Captain James knows how to make every day count. His calm, professional approach and detailed understanding of the fishery give you a serious edge. Whether you’re chasing your first king or looking to limit out, this is the trip you want.

Book your Hanford Reach trip today and experience some of the best king salmon fishing Washington has to offer.

Independent Guide
Captain James has been hooked on fishing since day one. Growing up casting lines alongside his father and grandfather in the Puget Sound, he turned childhood outings into a lifelong obsession. By the time he could ride a bike, he was pedaling to nearby lakes and rivers with a rod in hand—and once he got his license, he was chasing fish every chance he could get.

With over 30 years of experience on the water, James brings serious skill, unmatched
local knowledge, and a deep love for the sport to every trip. After years of fishing nearly every day, guiding was the natural next step. Now, he’s all about helping others experience the thrill of a bent rod, whether it’s your first time on the water or your hundredth. Passionate, patient, and always ready to find the bite—Captain James is the real deal.
