Few freshwater fish can match the sheer power and size of a Columbia River Sturgeon, and if you’re looking for big fish and big excitement, this trip is for you. Captain Jay offers catch-and-release Sturgeon trips most of the year, with May through July being the absolute peak for fast-paced action and multiple hookups.

These prehistoric giants regularly measure 4 to 8 feet long, with some even larger—and once you hook into one, you'll understand why anglers from all over the country travel here just for the chance. The fight is intense, the runs are powerful, and the thrill of watching a sturgeon roll at the surface never gets old.

Fishing is typically done from anchor, using bait fished on the bottom. But the real fun is in learning the bite. Sturgeon are notoriously sneaky eaters, so timing your hookset is a game of patience and skill. Set too early and they’ll drop the bait—wait just long enough and you’re locked into a serious battle. Jay’s years of experience make all the difference, and he loves teaching new anglers how to read the bite and stick the fish.

This trip is a low-pressure, high-excitement option that’s great for anglers of all skill levels. Whether it’s your first time on the water or you're checking “catch a sturgeon” off your bucket list, you’ll be in good hands.

While catch-and-keep seasons are currently closed, Jay keeps a close eye on regulation changes and will reopen those trips if the season returns. Be sure to subscribe for updates if you're hoping to harvest in future years.

You’ll be fishing from Jay’s 26’ Motion Marine open sled, fully outfitted with premium tackle, comfortable seating, and plenty of room for group adventures.

Having led professionally licensed and insured fishing trips in Oregon since 2003, I own and operate clean comfortable, properly maintained boats in good repair, high end rods and reels, the best safety gear available.

Expect me to show up prepared and on time with plenty of the best bait and tackle available. I’ll have water and a light boat snack on board. I have the skills and experience to assure a safe, fun and productive day on the water.

I started fishing with my dad when I was just a kid. As busy as he was, he always made the effort to get the family outdoors. Since then I’ve had amazing and unforgettable experiences fly fishing for trout and steelhead drifting our local rivers. Steelhead fishing, got me into salmon fishing with conventional gear.Living in the Pacific Northwest, the different fisheries we can participate in are numerous. As I became more proficient in our local fisheries, I was looking for the next challenge. Leading trips and sharing my experiences seemed like a natural progression.

My early career dealt with Industrial electronics controlling processes. I secured an early retirement in order to pursue my fishing passions. Hunting is one of my hobbies as well.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip. I do not sell fishing licenses, anglers need to get their own the night before the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Once you've paid your deposit at checkout, we'll send you a QR Code boarding pass. Just show your guide your boarding pass on the day of the trip, they'll scan it, the remaining balance will transfer automatically, and you'll be all set to get out there. Just make sure you bring a cash tip for the guide!

In the event of inclement weather, our guides will check the conditions and make the final call on whether its safe to go on the trip. If they decide the trip needs to be postponed, we'll work closely with you to reschedule or provide a credit for the full deposit, which can be applied to any of our trips in the US and beyond.

Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
