Looking for fast runs, wild jumps, and a shot at some of the hardest-fighting fish in the Pacific Northwest? Captain Jay’s Summer Steelhead trips on the Columbia River deliver all that and more. Running from May 15 through August 1, these trips are all about action, adrenaline, and long summer days on the water.

Summer Steelhead may not be easy to land, but that’s what makes them special. These ocean-run Rainbows explode when hooked—often clearing the water by 4 feet or more—making for an unforgettable fight on light gear. If you've never seen a chrome-bright Steelhead go airborne under a summer sky, you're in for a treat.

Trips are perfectly timed to take advantage of the prime run window and strong tide series that push Steelhead upriver in big numbers. For the best shot at success, plan for late May to Late July when conditions and fish activity align for peak fishing.

As a bonus, Spring Chinook and Sockeye salmon may also be available during your trip, giving you the chance to hook into multiple prized species in a single outing.

You’ll be fishing from Jay’s fully equipped 26’ Motion Marine open sled, with premium rods, reels, and tackle all provided. Just bring your Oregon fishing license, sunscreen, snacks, and a good attitude—Jay will handle the rest.

I started fishing with my dad when I was just a kid. As busy as he was, he always made the effort to get the family outdoors. Since then I’ve had amazing and unforgettable experiences fly fishing for trout and steelhead drifting our local rivers. Steelhead fishing, got me into salmon fishing with conventional gear.Living in the Pacific Northwest, the different fisheries we can participate in are numerous. As I became more proficient in our local fisheries, I was looking for the next challenge. Leading trips and sharing my experiences seemed like a natural progression.

My early career dealt with Industrial electronics controlling processes. I secured an early retirement in order to pursue my fishing passions. Hunting is one of my hobbies as well.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip. Anglers are responsible for providing their own licenses.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
