About Your Trip

Spend a winter day fishing the productive waters of Comox Valley with Captain Morgan, who brings more than 30 years of sportfishing experience to every trip. Operating out of Comox Valley Marina, these trips typically depart at first light and run for a full 8-hour day, giving you plenty of time to explore the surrounding waters and fish the areas Captain Morgan knows best.

During the winter months, the primary targets are Chinook Salmon, Prawns
(Shrimp), and Crab, species that make the Comox fishery particularly popular during the colder season. Throughout the year, however, these waters can also hold Coho Salmon, Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Lingcod, Rockfish, and more, depending on the timing of your trip and current regulations.

Your day will typically involve a mix of trolling with downriggers for Salmon and bottom fishing for species like Lingcod and Rockfish, using either light or heavy tackle depending on the target species and conditions. Captain Morgan may also incorporate jigging when appropriate, adjusting the plan based on tides, weather, and what’s been producing recently.

You’ll fish aboard a 28’ Northwest aluminum pilothouse boat that can comfortably accommodate up to 6 passengers. Built for the waters of the Pacific Northwest, this vessel comes equipped with downriggers, GPS, fishfinder, radar, an ice box, and a toilet onboard. There’s also a bed and small kitchen area, providing added comfort during a full day on the water.

All the rods, reels, tackle, and lures you’ll need are included with the trip. If you keep fish that meet regulations, Captain Morgan will clean and fillet your catch after the trip so it’s ready to take home. Drinks are also provided, and you’re welcome to bring along snacks for the day.

Families are welcome aboard, making this a great option for anglers of all ages. If children are joining the trip, be sure to confirm whether child-sized life vests are available onboard, or bring your own to ensure a proper fit. Snacks are always a good idea to keep everyone comfortable throughout the day.

Before the trip, everyone in your group will need to purchase a local fishing license, which is typically available online. Certain species may have seasonal closures or require specific tags, so it’s a good idea to review current regulations before your trip.

Be sure to bring non-spray sunscreen, sunglasses, and weather-appropriate clothing. Drinks are included, and alcohol is allowed in moderation, though it’s best to avoid hard liquor and glass bottles while onboard.

With easy access through the nearby Comox Airport and Harbour Air seaplane service directly into Comox Valley Marina, the area is convenient for travelers as well. The Comox Valley also offers excellent restaurants, accommodations, and scenic attractions, making it easy to turn your fishing trip into a longer Vancouver Island visit.

Note: A 5% GST will be added to the final invoice.
