About Your Trip

Spend a summer morning on the Chesapeake Bay with Captain Derrick on a traditional trotline crabbing trip, a hands-on experience that’s as much about the process as it is the catch. Running seasonally from mid-June through September, these trips take advantage of prime crabbing conditions during the early morning hours.

You’ll head out about an hour before sunrise and work the trotline as the sun comes up, pulling for Blue Crabs in classic Chesapeake fashion. Captain Derrick will walk you through the process and keep things moving efficiently, giving you a chance to learn the technique while staying engaged throughout the trip.

These trips run for approximately 5 hours and are a great option for families, groups, or anyone looking to try something a little different from traditional fishing. It’s a relaxed but hands-on outing with plenty of opportunity to fill the cooler when conditions line up.

You’ll be aboard a comfortable 34’ Webbers Cove equipped with everything needed for a smooth day on the water, including updated electronics and a full cabin with a head (toilet and sink).

All gear needed for crabbing is provided, and you’re welcome to keep your catch within legal limits. As with Captain Derrick’s fishing trips, licenses are handled by the charter.

Be sure to bring drinks, snacks, and appropriate clothing for early morning conditions. If you’re looking to experience a classic Chesapeake Bay tradition and bring home fresh Blue Crabs, this seasonal trip offers a great way to do it.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.
You're all set! You don't need to buy a license for this trip.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
