About Your Trip

There's a reason daytime swordfishing was born in the Florida Keys, and a reason anglers fly in from all over the world to do it. Just a run offshore from Islamorada, the bottom falls away into the deep blue of the Florida Straits — water so deep it never sees sunlight — and down there lives the most prized gamefish in the ocean: the broadbill swordfish. This is the trip that built reputations down here, and it's the one serious anglers put at the very top of their list.

We start with the long run offshore, out past the reef and the bluewater edge to grounds where the bottom sits 1,500 to 1,800 feet below the hull. Then the real work begins. Daytime swordfishing is a deliberate, technical game — we rig weighted baits with breakaway leads and a little glow, send them all the way to the bottom, and set up a controlled drift across the strike zone. Electric reels handle the depth; you do the hunting, watching the rod tip for that first soft, telltale thump that means a gladiator just found your bait a quarter-mile down.

When a sword commits, everything changes. These fish are pure muscle and attitude — they run, they sound, they shake that broad bill, and they do not quit. You might tangle with a scrappy 40-pounder or come tight to a 300-pound-plus brute that'll test your back, your tackle, and your nerve for an hour or more before color finally shows beneath the boat. There's no feeling in offshore fishing quite like watching a swordfish rise up out of the deep.

And the swords aren't the only payoff. While we soak baits down deep, the same drops produce snowy grouper, golden tilefish, barrelfish, and other deep-water bottom-dwellers you'll never catch anywhere near shore — odd-looking, hard-fighting, and some of the finest eating in the sea. Few crews head back to the dock empty-handed.

This is a full 10-hour offshore day aboard the DirtyBoat for up to 6 anglers. We provide all the premium tackle, electric reels, rigs, bait, ice, and licensing — everything it takes to chase these fish the right way. You bring food, drinks, motion-sickness meds, sunscreen, and a big cooler for those swordfish steaks. Whether it's your first deep-drop or your fiftieth, you'll fish alongside a captain and mate who know this fishery cold and would rather grind out one more drift than call it early.

This is bucket-list fishing. Come earn it.

Independent Guide
Captain Kit is a Florida native who grew up on the water and now runs trips out of Islamorada, putting anglers on fish just minutes from the Gulf Stream. Before making the full-time move into fishing, he built a career in high-performance, fast-paced environments—an approach that now shows up in how he runs his boat: efficient, focused, and always working to stay on the bite.

He learned the fishery the right way—spending years as a mate under a seasoned Keys
captain, dialing in everything from rigging baits and reading current to finding productive water across reefs, wrecks, and offshore grounds. That foundation shows in every trip, with a clear emphasis on putting anglers in the best position to succeed.

Captain Kit also competes in some of the Keys’ top tournaments, bringing that same competitive edge into his charters. It’s a mindset built around staying sharp, adapting quickly, and making the right call when conditions change.

You’ll be fishing aboard a 42’ Liberty Express, a powerful, tournament-ready boat equipped with top-tier tackle and all the comforts needed for a full day offshore. Docked at Robbie’s Marina, you’re just a short run from blue water—meaning more time fishing and less time getting there.

His approach is straightforward—fish hard, stay focused, and put people on fish. Whether it’s your first time offshore or you’ve been doing it for years, the goal is the same: bent rods, screaming drags, and a day you won’t forget.
