About Your Trip

Discover some of the finest trout water in North America on a guided walk-and-wade fly fishing adventure through the rivers and streams of Southern Alberta. Blessed with countless rivers flowing east from the Rocky Mountains, along with several renowned spring creeks, Alberta offers a fly fishing experience unlike anywhere else on the continent.

Operating primarily within the South Saskatchewan River Basin, these trips focus on several of the region's most productive mountain watersheds, including the
Oldman River, Highwood River, Castle River, Livingston River, and Crowsnest River systems. Additional opportunities may be available on the Waterton, Belly, and St. Mary's Rivers farther south. These waters are home to healthy populations of Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Bull Trout, offering anglers the chance to pursue multiple iconic western trout species in stunning mountain settings.

The rivers of Southern Alberta flow east from the Continental Divide through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in North America. Fed primarily by winter snowpack and seasonal rainfall rather than glacial runoff, these waters provide exceptional trout habitat and excellent sight-fishing opportunities throughout much of the season. Between the incredible scenery, abundant wildlife, and world-class trout fishing, the journey itself is often as memorable as the fish.

Depending on the destination and conditions, these adventures typically range from 8 to 14 hours, including travel time to and from the fishing location. The additional travel is well worth it, as many of these fisheries remain lightly pressured and offer opportunities to experience authentic western fly fishing on beautiful freestone rivers and mountain streams.

This trip is designed to be both a fishing adventure and an educational experience. Throughout the day, you'll receive personalized instruction covering casting fundamentals, fly selection, knot tying, reading water, fish behavior, fighting trout on a fly rod, safe wading techniques, and the various fly fishing methods used in mountain environments. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced angler looking to refine your skills, your guide will tailor the day to your experience level.

All necessary fly fishing equipment can be provided, including quality fly rods and flies. If you have favorite gear of your own, you're welcome to bring it along. Your trip also includes lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic refreshments, allowing you to focus on fishing while your guide handles the details. Please provide any dietary restrictions at least 24 hours before your trip.

Transportation to and from the fishing destination is included from a designated meeting location. Your guide also carries first aid equipment and emergency weather gear to help ensure a safe and comfortable day in the mountains. Alberta weather can change quickly, especially at higher elevations, so anglers should come prepared with layered clothing, rain gear, sun protection, insect repellent, polarized sunglasses, and any necessary medications.

Much of the river access in this region is through Alberta Crown Land, providing excellent public access to some truly spectacular trout water. Responsible stewardship and respect for both public and private lands are an important part of the local fishing culture, helping preserve these fisheries for future generations.

Wading is often an important part of accessing productive water on these trips. Anglers are encouraged to bring waders, wading boots, and a wading belt if they have them. Rental gear may be available locally through area fly shops for those who need equipment. Safe wading techniques are an important part of the instruction provided throughout the day.

For anglers looking to explore even farther, overnight mountain fishing adventures may also be available. Guests are responsible for their own lodging, meals, and trip preparation beyond the lunches provided, while your guide can supply cooking equipment and help coordinate logistics.

All participants must possess a valid Alberta fishing license and should familiarize themselves with current Alberta Sportfishing Regulations before their trip. Printed copies of your fishing license are required, and all guests must sign a liability waiver before departure.

No alcohol or cannabis is permitted during the trip.

If you've ever dreamed of stalking wild trout through crystal-clear mountain rivers while surrounded by towering peaks and untouched wilderness, this Southern Alberta walk-and-wade adventure delivers a fly fishing experience you'll never forget.

For the past 20+ years, Peter has focused on the mountain rivers and streams of Southern Alberta, while spending the last decade floating the legendary Bow River. In 2020, he turned a lifelong passion into a guiding business with one goal in mind: helping others
experience the excitement of fly fishing while creating lasting memories on some of the most beautiful waters in North America.

Whether you're catching your first fish on a fly rod or chasing a personal best, Peter is passionate about making every trip fun, educational, and rewarding. He enjoys teaching anglers the skills and techniques that build confidence on the water, from casting and reading water to fish behavior and fly selection.

As a member of the Angling Outfitters and Guides Association of Alberta and the Bow River Trout Foundation, Peter is committed to responsible angling, conservation, and protecting the fisheries he loves.

His guiding philosophy is simple: put safety first, have fun, share knowledge, and create an experience you'll remember long after the last cast. Built around the core values of Safety, Respect, Conservation, and Education, Peter's goal is to earn your trust and become the guide you want to fish with again.
