About Your Trip

Deep in the heart of the North Maine Woods, where cell service fades and the wilderness takes over, sits one of the most unique and unforgettable outdoor adventures available anywhere in the country. Lance hosts this 5-day, 4-night ice fishing and snowmobile expedition out of Bangor, Maine, taking guests into the remote backcountry for an experience that combines world-class fishing, breathtaking scenery, and the kind of adventure that is impossible to find anywhere closer to home.

Your journey begins the moment you land in Bangor, where a shuttle with driver picks you up and begins the three-hour trek into the famous North Maine Woods. Along the way you will be treated to sweeping views of Mount Katahdin, the winding beauty of the Penobscot River, and wildlife around every corner. Upon arriving at the trailhead, a final eight-mile snowmobile or side-by-side ride delivers you to the historic Spike Horn Lodge on Spider Lake, one of Macanamac Camp's finest facilities and your home base for the days ahead.

Spike Horn Lodge is a world apart. A talented camp chef handles every meal, fueling your days with hearty breakfasts, hot lunches on the ice, and satisfying dinners after a full day in the backcountry. Settle in on Day 1, drop a few ice fishing traps off the front porch, and let the quiet of the North Maine Woods wash over you. The adventure begins in earnest in the morning.

Day 2 belongs to the snowmobiles. Maine Master Guide Lee Libby leads guests on an approximately 100-mile ride through unplowed logging roads, remote trapper trails, groomed paths, and frozen lakes that have to be seen to be believed. The route is flexible and tailored to your group's experience level, so there is no need to worry if you are new to snowmobiling. Lunch on ride days is served at the Allagash Headwaters Lodge, a remote restaurant tucked deep in the woods with a menu that will genuinely surprise you.

Day 3 is dedicated to the ice, with Lance putting you on Brook Trout and Lake Trout on Spider Lake just steps off the front porch of the cabin. All ice fishing equipment and bait are provided, and Lance will cook a hot lunch right on the ice to keep the day going without missing a beat on the fish. Day 4 gives your group the choice to head back out on the snowmobiles with Lee, spend another full day on the ice with Lance, or mix both into the day however you see fit. It is your adventure and Lance and his team will make sure it unfolds exactly the way you want it to.

Everything you need is taken care of. Lodging, meals, all ice fishing gear and bait, snowmobile rentals, a Maine fishing license, and round-trip shuttle service from Bangor are all included. Guests are encouraged to bring their own cold weather gear, and a full recommended packing list will be provided upon booking.

On Day 5, a big farewell breakfast sends you off before the shuttle returns you to Bangor for your flight home, loaded with memories and stories that will last a lifetime.

Book your North Maine Woods adventure with Lance today and find out what it feels like to truly get away from it all.

Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?
Even though I'm quality (meaning memories) over quantity (measure on the scale), my biggest Northern Pike is 24lbs. My biggest Lake trout is 22lbs. My biggest Salmon is 19 lbs. I also am one of very few if any to catch a 5.5 lb lake trout in one of our Saskatchewan Lakes (said to not have lake trout anymore).
If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
I always cook for our friends! Some of my favorite dishes is grilled moose steak with garden-fresh veggies.

I always cook for our friends! Some of my favorite dishes is grilled moose steak with garden-fresh veggies.
What’s your favorite band?
I love a wide array of music but you can usually catch me listening to Gavin Adcock/Zach Bryan radio.
What’s your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Dead River Rough Cut...you may not have heard of it...look it up!
What’s your favorite sports team?
My favorite sports team is Boston Bruins (anything Hockey as I played/was goalie in school).
What’s your drink of choice?
My drink of choice is black coffee (hot or cold).
What was your last halloween costume?
Whatever my 6 year old tells me I am- we have a tradition that she picks them; we've been Monster's Inc, Flintstones, Alice in Wonderland to name a few.
What do you want for Christmas this year?
Boat parts, dry bags, snowmobile parts and gas for my machines-haha.
How did you get started guiding?
I didn't realize all my friends looked to me for hunting and fishing advice. I was blessed with a flexible work schedule to hold a "regular job" and start my guiding career which expanded to outfitting/guiding all year long now in two different countries!
What makes you different from other guides?
Experience, attention to detail, understanding the importance of the memories and adventures to be made and being personable. Most hunters/fishermen/women arrive as only that and become like family by the end of our trip!
