About Your Trip

A private salmon trip for 1 or 2 anglers in Discovery Passage, right off Campbell River, BC, the Salmon Capital of the World. This is a 6-hour trip. We leave from Coast Marina and are fishing within minutes. Start times follow the season: early morning, midday and late-afternoon trips run in summer, with later starts through the winter.

You fish from a nimble 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk with an experienced local guide who runs the boat, sets the gear and coaches you through every bite. It's an open boat without a cabin or washroom, so it's best for shorter trips and anglers who want to be right in the action. All rods, reels, tackle, bait and safety gear are included, and we clean and bag your catch for your cooler.

We troll with downriggers, working the tides around Discovery Passage, Cape Mudge and Quadra Island. Mid-October through March is winter Chinook season: local resident Chinook that feed here all winter, with quiet water and few boats around. From spring into summer, Chinook move through on their way to the rivers, and hatchery Coho open on June 1. We follow DFO rules exactly. Chinook are catch-and-release until July 15 and retention opens then; winter Chinook are 2 per day, minimum 62 cm.

It's a great first fishing trip, and couples, parents with a child, and friends all enjoy it. You'll need a BC tidal fishing licence, which you can buy online from DFO before the trip.

I'm Captain Jason, a Campbell River local who has fished Discovery Passage for more than 25 years and has guided here professionally since 2011. We fish year-round from Coast Marina (1003 Island Hwy, Slip A7) aboard Boston Whaler boats: my 27' Cabin Cruiser with a heated cabin, onboard washroom and Starlink, plus a fleet of 17' Montauks run by my experienced local guides.

Winter (mid-October to March) is local resident Chinook season: quiet water, fewer boats and real winter springs. Summer brings Chinook and Coho. All rods, tackle and safety gear are included.

Warm waterproof layers (we fish year-round), non-slip closed-toe shoes, hat, gloves and sunglasses, snacks and drinks, a cooler with ice to take your cleaned catch home, and your BC tidal fishing licence (buy online from DFO before the trip).

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 2 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 2 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
