About Your Trip

A fishing charter in Pensacola/Gulf Breeze, FL, is the perfect way to experience the Gulf Coast's rich fishing opportunities. On this trip, you'll head out to chase a wide range of inshore and nearshore species on either fly tackle or ultra-light tackle, both of which are a blast for anglers of all levels. Most trips are run less than 10 miles from the dock, so short run times means more fishing time. Pensacola has long history dating back to 1500's and has been home to the US Navy's Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels. The Blues spend their show season based in Pensacola and practice weekdays. Book the right day and you might get a personal airshow

Captain Richard is an expert when it comes to fish here off the coast of Pensacola/Gulf Breeze, and he'll be able to show you some great spots to catch all kinds of fish. You'll be targeting a range of species, including Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Tarpon, each of which requires its own unique approach. Some of these fish rarely break 10 pounds, while Tarpon can grow to over 100! Given this huge range, don't be surprised if you switch tackle and rigging several times throughout your trip, as you pursue different species.

We are a Do No Harm charter! All fish will be released.

As Fly Fishers International Certified Casting Instructor, Richard can help tune up your cast or get you out there as a first timer.

If you're using fly tackle, you'll likely be using 7 to 10-weight rods with saltwater reels designed specifically for the job. Equipment is provided, you will be using top of the line Thomas and Thomas fly rods with Tibor and Abel fly reels. You'll also use a range of flies, including surface poppers, streamers, and other kinds of imitators, all of which can entice different fish species. If you're using light tackle, you'll be using Shimano spinning rods and Florida Fishing Products reels loaded with braided line. You'll also be using a range of lures, including jigs, spoons, and soft plastics. Captain Richard will point you in the right direction, so you can be confident you're throwing the perfect tackle for the job!

Fishing here in Pensacola/Gulf Breeze is a great way to enjoy Florida's beautiful coast and hook up some fantastic species! The fish are feeding—what are you waiting for?

Independent Guide
As a long time resident of the Pensacola Area, I grew up fishing Pensacola Bay, Santa Rosa Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. These decades of experience provide me the opportunity to show clients the ins and outs of fly fishing this area.

I have been fly fishing the salt for more than 25 years and was fortunate to work in the fly fishing retail business for 10 years, which honed my skills at instructing beginners. For me, nothing is
more enjoyable than watching a new-comer catch their first saltwater fish on a fly.

As you might have guessed by now, my passion is sight fishing the shallow water flats of Pensacola waters for the likes of redfish, speckled trout, ladyfish, and their larger cousin, the silver king, tarpon. I venture offshore to chase schools of false albacore and Spanish mackerel.

Although I enjoy pursuing fish with a fly rod, I am a realist and know there are times when lightweight spinning gear is a must. I enjoy teaching young people to fish, be it fly or spin. Families are always welcome.

Captain Richard was an insightful and entertaining guide, and a great person to spend the day with. Even though we could not overcome harsh and windy conditions, we learned a lot about saltwater fly fishing and had shots at multiple saltwater species.
