About Your Trip

This trip consists of two consecutive 8 hour fishing days on O.H. Ivie Lake. This trip is limited to 1-2 passenger trips. All tackle is included in the trip cost, but I do not provide food and lodging accommodations.

Located on the Colorado and Concho Rivers in Concho, Coleman, and Runnels counties, and 55 miles east of San Angelo, O.H. Ivie has a surface area of 19,149 acres and reaches depths of 119 feet. The
water level at O.H. Ivie is known to fluctuate about 6-10 ft annually, however. It is one of Texas’s newer reservoirs only having been impounded in 1990. It is considered a classic looking Texas lake full of lots of flooded brush and timber along with various types of aquatic vegetation growing in it. The water clarity is typically clear on the main lake and Concho arm, while it can be a bit more turbid in the Colorado arm. The primary cover is the standing timber found through much of O.H. Ivie. When the lake was impounded, they did not clear the trees and brush from the river basin, so there are thousands of acres of brush and trees found throughout the lake. Various species of native aquatic vegetation and hydrilla are found in various areas of the lake. The primary structure found on the main body of O.H. Ivie is rock, and then simply mud flats when you get up into the river arms.

In recent years, this lake has become known as one of the best places to potentially bag a 13 plus pound bass in the world. It’s no secret that the majority of the bass this size are getting caught during the winter months, which is when I offer trips here. As such, I can’t really comment on the fishing here during other times of the year. Having said all of that, don’t expect to come here in the winter and catch a bunch of bass. The anglers who are catching the majority of the 13 plus pound bass are highly skilled anglers that are dedicated to spending several days on the water in search of that one bite.

Now, if you want to come here and just have fun catching bass using traditional bass fishing methods, you can do that as well, but your odds of catching the monster 13 plus pound bass are much slimmer. Traditional bass fishing methods out here do have a decent chance of catching a very large 8-11 lb bass, however, and you can have a good day catching decent numbers of bass.

If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
Don't really have anything I would lean towards. I am pretty comfortable cooking most anything.

Just to hang out with the kids.
How did you get started guiding?
Never intended on guiding. I was doing too well in tournaments and started having too many guys offering to pay me to take them fishing and show them how I was catching them. Eventually got tired of turning guys down.
What makes you different from other guides?
The reason I didn't check much of anything on the "vibe" questions is because I am all of those things. The biggest mistake that guides make is that they assume everyone wants the same experience from a guided trip. I cater my trips and cater my "vibe" to meet the needs of my clients. I do this with lots of communication with the clients before the trip in order to make sure that my expectations and your expectations align. The #1 reason clients have a negative experience with a guide is because those expectations didn't match. By making sure expectations match beforehand, I always have fun trips.

Everything Else to Know

Appropriate clothes for the season. DO NOT underestimate how cold it can be in the mornings on the water. Make sure to check the hourly forecast to see what the temps will be throughout our trip. If you are traveling here to Austin for your trip anytime from October - March, pack some heavy winter clothing just in case. Even in October and March, while it is unlikely, occasionally we see temperatures in the 30s. Rain gear if the weather forecast warrants it, sunglasses (preferably with polarized lenses, if possible), food/snacks, camera, sunscreen, bug repellent. I will provide plenty of cold, bottled waters. All equipment included in rate.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 3 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 3 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
