About Your Trip

Join Matt for an exciting night on the water aboard his custom-built gigging boat, where you’ll experience one of the Gulf Coast’s most unique and action-packed fishing traditions. Flounder gigging is a hands-on nighttime adventure that combines skill, patience, and precision in the shallow bays and backwaters.

As darkness falls, powerful lights mounted on the bow illuminate the sandy and grassy bottoms of the bay, revealing the telltale outline of flounder resting just beneath the
surface. In the right conditions, you may even spot their distinctive red eyes reflecting back in the glow, making them easier to identify in the shallow water. Once located, anglers carefully position themselves for a clean shot using a traditional forked spear known as a flounder gig.

Matt guides the boat slowly through productive shallow water areas, focusing on flats, channels, and sandy bottoms where flounder are commonly found. This methodical approach allows guests to actively search and participate in the hunt, making every sighting exciting and engaging. It is a highly interactive style of fishing that keeps everyone involved throughout the night.

Flounder gigging is both entertaining and rewarding, offering a completely different experience from daytime rod-and-reel fishing. The quiet nighttime setting, glowing lights, and sudden moments of spotting fish create a unique atmosphere that appeals to both beginners and experienced anglers alike. It is especially popular for groups looking for something fun, social, and a little different on the water.

Matt provides all necessary equipment and instruction, ensuring guests feel comfortable and confident using the gig. Safety and enjoyment are top priorities as you move through the shallows in search of feeding and resting flounder.

This is a true nighttime coastal tradition brought to life, offering hours of fun, steady action, and a memorable way to experience inshore waters with Matt on his custom gigging boat.
