What techniques are popular for inshore fishing in Port O'Connor?

In Port O'Connor, Texas, anglers have a variety of effective techniques at their disposal to target the diverse range of inshore species inhabiting the area's coastal waters. Whether anchored near oyster beds, drifting along marsh edges, or fishing around structure-rich areas like jetties, live bait fishing can be highly effective for targeting species such as redfish, speckled trout, and flounder.

Artificial lure fishing is another productive technique in Port O'Connor's inshore waters, allowing anglers to cover more ground and entice strikes from actively feeding fish. Anglers can experiment with different lure presentations and retrieve speeds to match the prevailing conditions and the preferences of the targeted fish, adding an element of excitement and versatility to their fishing experience.

For anglers seeking a more traditional approach, bottom fishing is a reliable technique for targeting bottom-dwelling species such as sheepshead, black drum, and flounder. Using rigs baited with shrimp, squid, or cut bait, anglers can target these species around structure-rich areas like bridge pilings, rock piles, and submerged reefs. Patience and finesse are key when bottom fishing, as bites can often be subtle and require a quick response to set the hook. Capt. Ross is a great guy and guide. We had a less than ideal weather pattern, but still caught keeper reds and puppy drum. It rained hard on us but he kept me on fish

Never use Captain Experiences for booking a fishing trip. They keep a huge sum of money up front-- money that I would prefer to go those who actually do the work- the fishing guide.

We booked a flounder trip for 4 with Captain Pat, we met at the boat ramp on time and the evening started, it was a little slow at first due to a low tide and muddy waters but Captain Pat worked his tail off hitting numerous locations and after a couple hours we had our limits! Captain Pat did a great job and we will definitely book him again!

James did an excellent job. The fishing was very slow during the day but he kept us moving in an effort to find them which we eventually did. Both of us ended the day with our limits. Easy to talk too. Very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend him to anyone and I’m planing to go with him again next time.

We had a great time with Captain Pat. Water visibility was low, but he still found a way to get us on a cooler full of flounder. My 16 & 12-yr old sons got their fair share too and are looking forward to our next trip.

It was a good trip. We went inshore fishing. Captain Adam put us on some Black Drum and some Reds. We only caught 9 fish that we could keep. We caught a lot of fish but the majority were under size. It was a real good time fishing C.W.

Capt Jon was great! He agreed to go out, even though it was so windy and cold and made sure we had a fun time, even if we didn’t expect to have much luck given the conditions. We were victorious over the gulls however and got several great fish!

Captain Pat; first impressions- prompt, on time and ready for the day’s fishing. Equipment was prepared and ready for use, boat was clean, well maintained. The man was energetic, dedicated to getting his “guests “ on redfish. Captain Pat was amicable and obvious good standing with his fellow boat captains due to their witty good natured exchanges. On the bay and bayou he was very chatty, told good fishing tales and was always quick to assist with bait, casting and netting the fish. During our expedition a boater needed assistance and he was able to assist the boat, assist getting the boat’s guest getting onto a new charter and professional that he is coordinating with another boat captain and got us into a “hot spot” of redfish, limiting out. Captain Pat receives high praise and hearty endorsement from my family. He definitely knows the Matagorda Bay Area and was witnessed being a resource to his fellow charter boat captains. Captain Pat, “Respect” and Thank you. The Gould’s, Jen & Cris
