About Your Trip

Morehead City has a fish with your name on it, so let Captain Lathan help you catch it! Head offshore for a full 8 hours of saltwater adventure on his 3/4 day trip, where you’ll explore waters 20 to 25 miles off the coast in search of some serious action. These trips are a great option for anglers looking to go beyond the nearshore zones without committing to a full-day offshore grind—plenty of time to put in work and still be back in time for dinner.

You'll step aboard a 42’ sportfishing boat purpose-built for this kind of run. With room for up to six passengers, the boat is loaded with the gear and amenities needed for a smooth and productive day on the water. Outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, radar, and a full electronics suite give you the tools to get on fish, while onboard comforts like air conditioning, a full kitchen, fridge, toilet, and even a bed make sure everyone stays comfortable throughout the day.

Once lines are in the water, expect a mix of trolling and bottom fishing using both light and heavy tackle depending on what’s biting and how deep you’re going. You might be trolling weed lines for Mahi Mahi or Wahoo one moment, then dropping baits to reefs for Gag Grouper, Vermilion Snapper, or Triggerfish the next. Other common targets on this trip include Amberjack, Cobia, King Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, Great Barracuda, and Bluefish. Your tactics will adjust as the conditions do, and Captain Lathan will be right there to dial in your approach.

Live bait will be ready and waiting—the crew catches it before the trip to save you time and keep things efficient. All rods, reels, tackle, and lures are provided, so you won’t need to worry about bringing gear. A professional First Mate will be on board to assist throughout the day, whether it's gaffing a fish, rigging up bait, or helping newcomers get the hang of the action. A 20% tip for the mate is customary and always appreciated for their hard work.

Your fishing license is included in the trip, and Captain Lathan will walk you through any regulations that apply to the fish you catch, including what can be kept and what needs to be released. His trips are also kid-friendly, so feel free to bring the family—but be sure to provide a USCG-approved life vest for any kids onboard.

Pack snacks, drinks, sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray only), and feel free to bring along some beer or other drinks—just avoid glass bottles. Whether you're looking to test your skills against offshore fighters or simply enjoy a full day on the water with friends or family, this 3/4 day trip is a great way to experience the variety and excitement of fishing off the Carolina coast.
