About Your Trip

Hop aboard with Captain Al for a dialed-in inshore fishing trip through San Diego’s South Bay that’s all about maximizing the bite! With over three decades of local knowledge under his belt and a lifetime of fishing experience around the globe, Captain Al brings an unmatched level of expertise and passion to every charter. As a U.S. Navy Veteran and USCG Master Captain, you're in safe and experienced hands every step of the way.

This
trip targets the best tides—because that’s when the fish are feeding. Start times are typically around 7 AM or 12 noon, but Captain Al will adjust based on the running tide to make sure you’re casting when the fish are biting. This flexibility is one of the things that makes these trips so successful—and so exciting!

You’ll be fishing with artificial lures only, using light spinning tackle and time-tested techniques to fool the local favorites. Spotted Bay Bass are the main attraction here, and they love to put up a spirited fight. Don’t be surprised if a Bonefish, Halibut, or another surprise guest makes an appearance—South Bay can be full of surprises!

While this is a 99.99% catch-and-release experience, you're welcome to keep a legal-sized Halibut if one bites your line. Everything else gets released to fight another day, which makes this a great eco-conscious trip for anglers who just love to catch fish.

You’ll be fishing aboard a 26’ Pilothouse vessel designed for comfort and capability. It’s fully outfitted with top-tier electronics, a bait tank, tower, Yeti coolers, and a full arsenal of quality rods, reels, and custom artificial lures. Whether you’re brand new to fishing or just looking to fine-tune your skills, Captain Al focuses on personalized attention, helping you learn the ins and outs of local fishing techniques that you can take with you beyond the trip.

Families are more than welcome, and this trip is a fantastic way to introduce kids (ages 8 and up) to the fun of inshore fishing. Child-sized life vests are available, but feel free to bring your own for the best fit.

Pickup is at Glorietta Bay, with the calm inshore waters of South Bay as your fishing playground. Make sure to bring drinks, snacks, sunglasses, and non-spray sunscreen. Alcohol is allowed in moderation to keep things relaxed and fun.

A local California fishing license is required for everyone in your group, and Captain Al will help make sure you have what you need before hitting the water.

How did you get started guiding?
I got tired of my career and decided I would do something I truly loved and could share with others.
What makes you different from other guides?
I've been doing this for a while, so I've learned how to be flexible and read client needs. So I can help kids catch their first fish, help a seasoned angler improve what they already know but giving them recommendations they can reutilize at home or take experienced anglers for more diffcult trips where you need to finesse your presentation.
