About Your Trip

eady to level up your angling game? Captain Mike’s nearshore shark and tuna trips are built for thrill-seekers and serious anglers looking to tangle with some of the ocean’s most powerful predators. Whether you're gunning for hard-charging Bluefin Tuna or testing your mettle against a hammerhead or mako, this trip takes you beyond the bays and into the deep blue off the beaches and wrecks near Newport. With options for both 6-hour and 8-hour trips—and the flexibility to extend your adventure by the hour when available—you’ll have every chance to make this the fishing story of your season.

The 3/4 day, 6-hour option is perfect for anglers who want a solid shot at big game without committing to a full day. You’ll head out from the coast and quickly get into nearshore zones where tuna schools roam and shark activity is heating up. Trolling, jigging, spinning, and drifting will all be in play, depending on conditions and your target species. Whether you’re running the spread for Bluefin or dropping baits over deep structure for Thresher and Blue Sharks, Captain Mike knows where to go and how to get you on the bite.

Want more time on the water? Book a full 8-hour day and dive even deeper into the action. With a full day at your disposal, you can hit multiple spots, shift strategies with the conditions, and fish from sun-up to sundown. These extended trips give you a real chance to get locked in with the big ones—think Mako Sharks cutting through the swells, or the chaotic run of a hooked Skipjack or Bonito as it screams line off your reel. Add in the possibility of landing Black Seabass, Atlantic Mackerel, or even a bonus Striper on your way out, and you've got a high-octane, bucket-list experience from start to finish.

Your platform for this offshore push is Captain Mike’s 22' Seaswirl walkaround, a seaworthy vessel equipped to handle everything from nearshore shark drifts to high-speed tuna runs. Designed for four passengers, it’s an ideal setup for a tight-knit crew looking to chase big game in comfort and confidence. All rods, reels, bait, and tackle are provided, with bottled water onboard and two ice boxes ready to keep your drinks cold and your catch fresh.

Don’t forget your non-spray sunblock, sunglasses, a jacket for the morning run, and snacks to keep you fueled throughout the day. Alcohol is fine in moderation—just leave the glass bottles at home. And with your fishing license included, all you need to bring is the fire to fight something big.

If you’ve ever dreamed of hooking into a shark or testing your strength against a tuna off the scenic shores of Newport, this is the trip you’ve been waiting for. Book your shot at a monster and let Captain Mike lead you into battle.
