About Your Trip

We’ll load the boat in the morning, timing our departure with the tides to ensure a smooth launch. As the sun peeks over the horizon, you’ll feel that familiar rush of salt‑tinged air as we motor 10–12 miles offshore toward the hidden reef structures that teem with life. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for breaching whales—gray, humpback, or even the occasional orca—as well as playful sea lions riding our bow wake. Seabirds wheel overhead, and if we’re lucky, we might spot a pod of dolphins cutting through the swells alongside us.

Once we arrive at our first reef, we’ll drop down our jigs and feel for that telltale thump of rockfish eager to take the bait. The underwater canyon walls here are carpeted with anemones and starfish, and schools of copper‑tinged rockfish swirl around like living confetti. Between drifts, take a moment to breathe in the crisp ocean breeze, admire the mist‑shrouded coastline in the distance, and watch the sunlight dance across the water’s surface.

When the lingcod bite turns on, you’ll know it—these feisty predators hit hard, and hauling one up through the water column is a rush like no other. As you work the rod, you may glimpse a curious harbor seal popping its head up to investigate, or catch sight of kelp beds waving gently in the current below.

Under Oregon’s 2024 regulations, we’re allowed to keep 4 rockfish and 2 lingcod over 22 inches per angler. Mark your calendar for July 1st, when the rockfish limit increases to 5 while the lingcod limit remains unchanged.

But the fun doesn’t stop there—after we’ve jigged the reefs, we’ll shift gears and head into prime trolling grounds in search of salmon. We’ll spread out our downriggers, set our flashers, and bait our hoochies, then settle in for the unmistakable tug and explosive run of a chrome‑bright king or silver salmon. Watching that rod tip load up, feeling the drag scream as the fish rockets away, and battling a powerful salmon back to the boat—there’s nothing quite like it. Between the reef fishing, the chance to see whales and dolphins, and the heart‑pounding excitement of a salmon strike, this combo trip delivers the very best of Oregon’s offshore adventures.

Tom is a proud graduate of South Umpqua High School in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. In 2007, he answered the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he spent six years as a helicopter mechanic, working on some of the most advanced aircraft in the military. His time in the Marines not only sharpened his technical skills but also forged a deep sense of discipline, resilience, and commitment.

In 2013, after an intense 11-month battle with
bone cancer, Tom was medically retired from active duty. Despite the hardships he faced during that time, he emerged with a renewed passion for the outdoors and a drive to keep moving forward.

Fishing has been a constant thread throughout Tom’s life — from his early days casting lines in the high-mountain reservoirs of Colorado to exploring the vast, untamed waters of the Pacific Ocean. His love for fishing runs deep, shaped by both adventure and healing, and it continues to be one of his greatest passions.
