The coastal marshes in southeast Louisiana are a fantastic environment for seeing a huge variety of birds. It’s not uncommon to see over 50 species on a trip!

A technical poling skiff is a fantastic way to get close and observe the birds in their natural habitat. I can push pole the boat or use a trolling motor to quietly drift in close when an opportunity presents itself.

Trips last around five hours and I pack lunch and drinks. It is not uncommon to run thirty to fifty miles on a trip depending on the conditions and the time of year. We see various species of hawks, ospreys, harriers and eagles on any given day in the marsh. I really love hunting for the smaller shore birds such as my favorite Oyster Catchers, rails, Black-necked Stilt, avocet, plovers, Killdeer, sandpiper, curlew, and Roseate Spoonbill to name a few. Perhaps what makes this marsh so special is the abundance of water fowl we see. All kinds of ducks inhabitant these coastal wetlands and in huge numbers.

I am relatively new to birding and identifying the various species I encounter is something I have come to really enjoy. I am fortunate to have a brother who runs eco-tours of the delta around Mobile Alabama. He opened my eyes to how extraordinary our marsh is for the birding enthusiast.

Jeff originally moved to New Orleans to catch fish and to pursue a career in music, and has succeeded substantially at both. He is the lead guitar player in the New Orleans funk band Galactic and is co owner of what many regard as the greatest music venue on the planet, the legendary Tipitinas. This makes Jeff the ideal Louisiana Redfish Charter Guide for those music fans who love to catch fish!

How did you get started guiding?
Five years ago I ended up selling my bay boat and flats skiff and upgraded to a 17 Maverick flats skiff. After thirty years of chasing redfish all over the southeast Louisiana coastal marshes I knew I was uniquely qualified for a career as a redfish guide.
What makes you different from other guides?
I have fished with guides all over the United States, the Caribbean and Central America. I have learned that the most important thing on a chartered fishing trip is that its the customers day and what they want to do comes first. I get tons of what I call "fly or die" clients who no matter what the conditions only want to fly fish. I try and come prepared for whatever the client might want to do on any given day. I never loose my temper or make an angler feel bad if things don't go our way. I believe the only way to learn how to fight big fish on light tackle is to do it. On every trip my goal is to give my customer a shot at the redfish of a lifetime.

I bring birding placards and binoculars for clients. Also books for identifying birds I may not be sure of.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
The deposit for this trip is non-refundable except for weather-related cancellations. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
