About Your Trip

Double down on your San Diego bass adventure with Captain Jim’s 2-Day Combo Trip—two full days of high-caliber bass fishing on two different premier lakes in the region. This trip is perfect for anglers who want to maximize their chances at trophy fish, experience different fishing styles, and explore the diverse environments that make San Diego one of the top bass fishing destinations in the country.

Each day, you’ll fish a different lake hand-picked by
Captain Jim based on current conditions, seasonal patterns, and your personal goals. Whether it’s flipping tules at Lower Otay, chasing giants in the deep, clear waters of Diamond Valley, or targeting springtime double-digits at Lake Murray, Jim’s got the experience and instincts to put you where the bite is best.

You’ll fish from a tournament-loaded Ranger Z521 bass boat equipped with a Mercury 250 ProXS outboard and cutting-edge Lowrance electronics. All gear is provided, including Phenix rods, Daiwa reels, and a curated selection of the latest and most effective baits on the market. Water, snacks, and Jim’s full attention are also included—just bring your valid California fishing license, polarized sunglasses, and weather-appropriate gear.

With over 35 years of experience on San Diego’s lakes and a proven track record of guiding success, Jim offers more than just a fishing trip—he delivers a complete learning experience tailored to serious anglers. If you’re ready to sharpen your skills, explore multiple fisheries, and take a serious shot at a trophy bass, this two-day adventure is for you.

Meet Captain Jim: A West Coast Bass Master with 40+ Years on the Water

With over four decades of fishing experience and a lifelong passion for the sport, Captain Jim brings a wealth of knowledge and competitive grit to every trip. A native Californian, Jim grew up with a rod in hand—cutting his teeth on both saltwater and freshwater species across the West Coast. By age 14, he was already working as a deckhand with the San Diego sportfishing fleet,
and just four years later, he earned his captain’s license and began running boats commercially and recreationally.

While Jim’s fishing resume spans fly-fishing, commercial operations, and everything in between, it was bass fishing that truly stole his heart. For the past 20 years, he’s immersed himself in the competitive bass scene, earning numerous accolades along the way—including six-time San Diego Region “Angler of the Year” honors and consistent top finishes in major circuits like WON Bass, National Bass West, and U.S. Anglers Choice.

Today, Captain Jim guides part-time while still averaging 10–15 tournaments a year and spending up to 100 days annually on the water. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned angler looking to sharpen your bass tactics, Jim offers a dialed-in, technique-driven experience rooted in decades of success
