About Your Trip

Step into the world of trophy hunting with Captain Jim’s Swimbait Special—a full-day, one-on-one deep dive into the art of throwing big baits for big bass. Available August through October only, this exclusive trip is designed for serious anglers who want to learn the nuances of fishing high-end swimbaits like Roman Made, 86 Baits, and other premium glide and wake baits that draw out true giants.

This isn’t your average bass trip—it’s a focused mission
to target the biggest fish in the lake using some of the most iconic and effective big baits ever made. You’ll spend the day dialing in casting angles, cadence, retrieve variations, and boat positioning, all while learning how to read structure, shade lines, and seasonal patterns that trigger strikes from double-digit bass.

You’ll fish aboard Jim’s tournament-ready Ranger Z521, powered by a Mercury 250 ProXS and fully equipped with Lowrance electronics to stay locked in on key structure and fish positioning. The trip includes use of specialized swimbait rods and reels, along with a selection of proven Roman Made and 86 Baits swimbaits—meticulously maintained and ready for battle.

Jim brings over 35 years of experience fishing San Diego’s trophy lakes, and his guidance is packed with insight from years of swimbait dedication. This trip is limited to one angler only to keep the focus tight, the boat quiet, and the presentation perfect.

All you need to bring is a valid California fishing license, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and clothing suited for the conditions. Snacks and water are included—but more importantly, so is Jim’s full attention, with zero distractions.

If you're ready to commit to the grind and learn the swimbait game from a true expert, this full-day trip is your chance to level up and go big.

Meet Captain Jim: A West Coast Bass Master with 40+ Years on the Water

With over four decades of fishing experience and a lifelong passion for the sport, Captain Jim brings a wealth of knowledge and competitive grit to every trip. A native Californian, Jim grew up with a rod in hand—cutting his teeth on both saltwater and freshwater species across the West Coast. By age 14, he was already working as a deckhand with the San Diego sportfishing fleet,
and just four years later, he earned his captain’s license and began running boats commercially and recreationally.

While Jim’s fishing resume spans fly-fishing, commercial operations, and everything in between, it was bass fishing that truly stole his heart. For the past 20 years, he’s immersed himself in the competitive bass scene, earning numerous accolades along the way—including six-time San Diego Region “Angler of the Year” honors and consistent top finishes in major circuits like WON Bass, National Bass West, and U.S. Anglers Choice.

Today, Captain Jim guides part-time while still averaging 10–15 tournaments a year and spending up to 100 days annually on the water. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned angler looking to sharpen your bass tactics, Jim offers a dialed-in, technique-driven experience rooted in decades of success
