Okeechobee bass fishing is picking up,with some bigger females showing up in the reeds and under mats,the peacock bass in the inland lakes and canals,took a hit with the cold weather, resulting in some fish kills,but overall,still a bunch of them.clown knife fish have been very active also,the speckled perch on okeechobee have been doing god,kinda hit and miss with the higher water the lakes holding,but if you find them,you can catch them!!

Cold air! South Florida gets another cold blast, water temperatures dropped and the winds prevailed. Winter time fishing is full of ups and downs in the Palm Beaches. Slow down and stay persistent, you will catch fish.
Backwater fishing for snook always great areas to locate fish as water temperatures are typically warmer. Mangrove shorelines, muddy bottoms snook flock to these zones, live baits, small jigs and twitch baits all tactics to get the strike. Anglers can also target sea walls, docks and bridges working the bottom thoroughly with jigs and live baits dropped to the bottom.

Juvenile tarpon prevalent in the backwaters along mangrove shorelines, strike live baits and twitch baits worked slow near pot holes drop offs.
Flats, rock piles, and inshore wrecks great areas to target snapper, jacks, blue runners, drum and many other species. Shrimp and jigs both create rod bending action for anglers.

Catching a lot of numbers as the water warms up. The Big girls will be going on the beds here in a bit with that moon phase here on Lake Okeechobee.

Superb weather the past week made for great days on water. Plenty of sunshine and moderate wind days anglers enjoyed sunshine and rod bending action.
Channels and backwaters held plenty of tarpon, the bigger Tarpon finicky at times allowed anglers to witness tarpon temperament. Primarily due to the full moon the bite was hit and miss but the juvenile tarpon do have the same mind set as bigger fish at times, they like to eat if baits is around. Snook fishing was awesome the past week lots of small fish but all four species of snook were caught. Docks also held schooling fish, live baits and jigs worked around pilings got the strike. Fly fishing for snook for multiple days with anglers made for lots of surface strikes and great takes next to the boat.
Rock piles and wrecks held plenty of snapper, drum and schools of jacks, bluefish, lady fish and runners. Jigs and shrimp worked near the bottom got hit almost every drop, creating bent rod and happy anglers.

Happy New Year! Hard to believe January has arrived, wishing everyone a healthy, happy fishing season. Cold arctic blast for south Florida is long gone, back to fun in sun. The waters are warming up and the fish are happy.

Jack cravelle have really shown up taking residence near channels and deeper holes. Small minnow schools have been abundant so the jacks are crashing these schools. Drum, snapper, bluefish and permit have also been around for anglers to tango with. Shrimp and small jigs near bottom get the strike.
