Fishing down in Shell Beach, Louisiana has been pretty good this winter. The weather was stable and didn’t freeze out on us like it has the last few years. There is still plenty of bait in the interior marshes along with plenty of fish. Redfish and Sheepshead have been phenomenal. The speckled trout have been in and out with the cold fronts. This spring is gonna be great if this weather holds out like it is. The amount of bait we are seeing on the inside is a good sign that the spring/summer Speckled trout run will be off the...

This spring is gonna be great if this weather holds out like it is. The amount of bait we are seeing on the inside is a good sign that the spring/summer Speckled trout run will be off the charts. There are a few smaller rivers that are swollen up with the rain and melted snow from up north, but the Ole mighty Mississippi River is still down. That is a key factor on our trout run in our area. To much fresh water will kill off our oysters and altimatly push our bait out to the outside. Making us travel further for those Highly prized speckled trout. But all things considered, things are looking good for the Shell Beach and Hopedale area this year!!
The fishing has been pretty good down in Shell Beach. The weather has been up and down and so have the fish, but nonetheless, they have been biting. Redfish and Sheepshead have been really good the last few weeks. Trout have been off and on. In between fronts, the trout have been hitting pretty good. Live bait is non existent since the freeze, so we've been bringing Campos dead bait along with some of our favorite artificial baits to get that mixed box.

Launched out of Golden Meadow, Louisiana to target redfish. We fished the marsh hitting points. Didn't have much luck. So I changed tactics to look for deeper moving water with structure. We free lined live minnows into the structure and pulled out 25 redfish. All redfish caught 16" to 27".
Day 2 of the trip we decided to go after some bull reds. So we cast netted live mullet then traveled to the mouth of a deep cut that empties into Lake Raccourcie. Used cut mullet on bottom and caught 5 bull reds and a few bull sharks. After half...

Day 2 of the trip we decided to go after some bull reds. So we cast netted live mullet then traveled to the mouth of a deep cut that empties into Lake Raccourcie. Used cut mullet on bottom and caught 5 bull reds and a few bull sharks. After half of the day spent on fighting bulls we decided to head back to the spot we caught and released all the slot redfish the day before. We showed up and found the slot reds right where we left them.
Launching out of Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Back to back charters. Both groups agreed to go target some redfish, so we loaded up the boat and embarked on our journey. Started fishing dead shrimp 26" under a four horseman cork. Working oyster beds and old camps. Both groups made quick work, bringing in redfish after redfish. On both trips, we had our state allowed limits at 10 am. We would then work more old camps along Grand Bayou Blue catching sheepshead and reds. Once the bite stops at one location, we would switch from popping cork to free line. Free line...

Most of our redfish were 16"-18" (perfect eating size). Both groups left happy and excited for their next marsh adventure!

Our day in Venice with Captain Rich was simply unbeatable. He tailored our time to catching the fish we hoped to catch and had prepared the gear and bait the way we prefer. He took us to some lesser-known, uncrowded locations where we caught our limit of redfish, several bulls and we could have done so all over again. A quick pass by another location yielded a trophy-sized triple tail also. My 11 year-old son was thrilled and had the best fishing day of his life so far! The guy is great, the boat is great and the experience will be long remembered. I strongly suggest you book with Rich when in Venice. "Fish on!"
We had a great time out with these guys. Hit a 2 man limit on drum on top of redfish and other species. Got to see a ton of wildlife. Very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. Would highly recommend.
What a great day. Me and my 2 sons fished with Captain Jacob and had an amazing day. Had 3 limits of red by 7:00 a.m. and continued to catch reds non stop for about another almost 2 hours. Even managed to pick up a handful of specks on the way in. Will definitely book another trip with him.
Captain Shawn. Did an excellent job on a difficult windy day. One us was able to limit out on the Reds. Would go back again with him if we have the the chance.
I had a great time with Ronald. He was a joy to fish with. My bucket list was to get a Red fish and a Speckled trout and we were complete on the list. THANKS
10/10, highly recommend! Knowledgeable, pleasant captain. Got to experience catching the Alligator Gar and several other species of fish during our trip.
