These beasts were landed just after hurricane Ian ran through. We headed out early on the day after land fall. Pilchards had moved into the creaks by the thousands making for easy bait opportunities. After one throw we loaded up on jumbo razors . Then headed to some wrecks just passed the reefs in Islamorada. The water was milky but calm , stirred up from the week of high winds . On the first drift we hooked the first monster on one of the lighter rods with a 20 pound leader . After a nearly 20 min battle we were finally gaining back line . Finally we made it to the weight and I Began carefully hand lining the fish to the boat . Finally after we got the gaff in angler and Captain both let put a sigh of relief followed by the crack of several high fives between all aboard the Papa Jack 4 ! Best part is second drop we boated a second pompano shortly after . This time rigged a bit heavier ! Between the multiple cold fronts and north to North west winds . It has made for perfect condition for targeting shallow water mutton's . We have had several double digit keeper mutton trips and even seeing a few over 20 pounds . Additionally having shots at everything from red grouper , Goliath grouper , lane snapper , and mackerel in between mutton's bites. Keeping the box full of variety and keeping anglers rods bent. We also had a few gulf trips later in the month in beautiful calm seas . Where the Spanish mackerel run has kept drags screaming and everyone with a perm-a grin ! In addition to jumbo mangroves , and even some Cobia opportunities. Over all the new year has been full of great action and many memories made aboard the Papa Jack 4. We looked forward to seeing what the rest of this winter season has to offer !

Cold front temperatures are from the high 70s to low 60s but on the temperature up side fish are feeding hard from adult size tarpon to large snook considering temperatures in the rest of the country Florida Keys are a great escape.

Winner is in full winter is in full swing with 70° temperatures during the day and fantastic sale fishing, the King mackerels are around to bend the rod, as well as some really nice tuners. The mutton snappers have moved into the deep water of course groupers are closed so we don't fish for them and basically it's just my favorite time of year. nothing is more fun than hooking up to a sale Fish and watching him job and having the boat back down on them for the real excitement on the right weather day, put the Kites up...

Weather has been some windy days and other days completely calm and off the chain for the Wahoo bite. Offshore has been action packed. We are catching Wahoo in 100-230 feet, they love to bite when there is a overcast and minimal seas. We expect them to stick around and keep slaying them; just like last year. As they make the perfect eating as raw, sushi, cooked, or, smoked as fish dip! Last week on a full- day offshore with Team Redbull; Ace of Spades released 4 Sailfish (Captain Maurices favorite). As they make the perfect eating as raw, sushi, cooked, or, smoked as fish dip! Last week on a full- day offshore with Team Redbull; Ace of Spades released 4 Sailfish (Captain Maurices favorite). This makes a adventure filled and action packed day of fighting bill fish; pulling up to the dock with 4 sail release flags out! It sure keeps the Captain on his toes! The reef is full of good eating- mutton snappers are biting hot, and, of course the flag yellowtails are cooperating. Reef trips are a rewarding and perfect outing for families and groups who want to stay with their rods bent and consistent action. And ideal for cook your catch at the wonderful local restaurants. As always its a blessing to fish daily in the Florida Keys and put families and friends from all over onto the best bite!

Kevin was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable and provided easy step by step instruction instructions while fighting 2 - 5 foot lemon sharks in less than 1/2 hour before daylight faded. Both were unkooked boat side with great video and pictures. His boat is clean and organized making it safe and easy to move around the boat while battling a catch of a lifetime for 2 Wisconsinites. Thanks Kevin. See you soon.
