Lots of redfish still in our muddier lakes. We're still catching them 90+ degree, 2-3 ft water. Cracked crab and mullet is the bait of choice.

Summer has officially started in Port O’ Connor. There are 3 major bay systems in Port O’Connor, west matagorda bay, Espiritu Bay, and San Antonio Bay. Each one has its own characteristics and each present a challenge on finding good fish. Espiritu Bay has been producing solid trout on top water baits in the early morning and plastics such as down south lures. The trout have moved from the mud from the back lakes and sloughs to the sand of the south shore lines and sand bars, as the day gets warmer they move from the flats to the deeper guts and then back to the flats as the evening arrives and the bait moves back onto the flats. The redfish have also been producing very well this summer and can be caught on top water and plastics as well.
West matagorda bay has been on fire as of late and the trout have been in an abundance on the sandbars and flats. The bull reds have been epic this year in deeper waters from bird island all the way into the jetties early in the morning and have been caught on jigs.
San Antonio Bay has been a little slower on producing fish but they are starting to turn on too. Each bay has oyster reefs, sand, and grass pockets which all present a different challenge on how to fish and be successful on getting a limit of trout and reds.
As the we get into July and august the fish are going to move into deeper water to stay cool so we always have to be aware of water temperature and tidal movement. Also the months of July and august are great for going to the surf because we hardly get any wind in those months which keeps the surf calm and there are some big trout and reds that hang out on the gulf side of the barrier islands.

Chase was great! We had so much fun and caught our limit of big redfish, then gigged 4 nice flounder before the weather rolled in. We caught about 8 additionall redfish that we threw back…along with the huge tarpon my husband caught. And the area we fished was absolutely gorgeous. A dream fishing trip!!! Thanks a million again to Chase!

My party had a terrific time! James is one of the best guides I’ve had the pleasure to meet and fish with. I recommend him without any reservation, and confident that regardless of your skills and abilities, James can and will help you and your group have the best trip possible.

A little bit of a tough day. Saw lots of fish but they just were not biting, but Travis went above and beyond and found a pocket of tailing Red. He found fish and put me on them and that is exactly what you pay a guid to do. Great job!!!

We had a great time out on the water with Captain Larry! He was very knowledgeable and helpful. We wanted to find where the trout were and he got us to the places to make that happen. I had never wade-fished, but he got me comfortable and now I may never go back to fishing from a boat (and getting sea sick). Definitely will look at booking with Captain Larry again in the future.

James is a professional fishing guide and not only put us right on the fishe everywhere we went but also made it fun. My 3 daughters and I were all novice fishermen but he had us reeling in fish like we were naturals. Highly recommend!

There is no such thing as a guaranteed day of good fishing. You have to have the right tackle, patience, spot and timing. Capt James has everything listed with experience to boot! Had an amazing time in fairly tough fishing conditions but Capt James persisted till we found the fish, can’t recommend enough!

Travis did as good a job as any guide can do. He put us fish. We limited out on one species and found another but didn’t get any keepers.
