Mosquito Lagoon has continued to produce good quantities of slot reds along with an occasional Bull. But these recent fu moon phases have been key in bringing the gator Trout up on the flats to spawn. Two days ago we had 8 trout between 20 and 25". Largest for the year so far has been 29". This will continue through June. In the Ponce Inlet area still seeing good quantities of sheepshead and flounder with regular hookups of bull reds and black drum. On and off, Up and down, hot and cold, all opposites, all antonyms, all ways to describe the way fishing has been for the last several weeks. There have been good days with some catches of trout and reds and there have been some great days of reeling in some 30-40 lb. Drum. But there have also been some days where I wished I would have stayed home. All in all the tide is turning and there's going to be some better days ahead. The live bait is changing and the fish will be jumping.

The winter bite has been consistent, good numbers of sheepshead, whiting and weakfish have been keeping customers busy, weather in the mornings has been a bit cool by our Florida standards and picking the spots to fish in the wind can be challenging this time of year but overall it has been a good last 10 days

We have a very consistent trout bite with the current size ranging from 15"-21" along with a few kicker fish over 24". The snook have come out of the freeze pretty strong and we are catching good numbers of 18"-25" snook in creeks and canals where the water is warmer. Out on the flats we are having a fantastic season for redfish. My clients can expect 20 shots in a half day of fishing but the fish are challenging! The bites been a little tough between cold fronts. Having to work a little harder and cover a little more ground throughout the day to fine fish. The month of February will definitely be better as the water is warming up the sheep head are starting to bite the trout are starting to spawn and red fish are starting to stage up on outer islands.

Trout,Redfish and Snook
Now that the waters are warming up and the weather is getting back to normal. The fishing is going strong trout and redfish has been our target species but just to keep in mind snook season starts in March you don't want to miss out on a great catch.
For our trout and redfish right now they have been biting artificial lures. We have been using Z-man jerk shad's and Z-man TRD minnows. They Z-man jerk shad are on a Texas eye Jighead and the TRD minnows are on Ned rigs hooks.

The fishing the rest of this winter and spring is going to be one for the books. We are consistently getting 20+ shots in a half day. Quite of few of these shots are at schools of 10-30 redfish or black drum. The water is crystal clear and the fish are feeding great on artificials and flies. We are commonly catching "lagoon slams" of trout, black drum, and redfish on fly and spin.
