Black Drum
Inshore fishing report- schools of Spanish mackerel can still be found on the incoming tide near the Destin pass and along the beaches, along with a few pompano and whiting in the surf.
Red Fish are being caught near the Destin bridge on the outgoing tide along with the Destin Jetty’s.
The speckled sea trout bite has been slim to none, but the Best Bite has been early morning on grass beds using live bait.
Near shore, fishing report-
Rocks and reefs are holding lots of amber jacks, red snappers triggerfish in a variety of other reef species. King Mackerel are starting to show up along with Bonitas.

At the 15 mile ledges, there are plenty of red snapper and grouper, with a few keeper Seabass though the sharks have also moved in. These fish have been caught on Carolina Rigs and grouper rigs with pogies or cut bait. If you don’t have live bait, you can also use grubs- fishbites or gulp brand work the best.
At 3 mile reef, there is still Spanish, bluefish , weakfish with some flounder moving in on the bottom. Most of the bluefish and Spanish are coming off of peanut pogies or spoons. The flounder and weakfish are caught off of white and chartreuse baits on the bottom.
On the jetties there’s some larger trout, sheepshead and redfish tied to the rocks, along with Spanish. Most of the redfish have been along the bottom in the rocks with the trout and sheepshead being tight on the rocks. You can use a fiddler on a hook for the sheepshead or a live shrimp or artificial for the trout. While you’re fishing the rocks, you can toss a rig out for Spanish- any spoon that resembles a glass minnow will work perfect.
In the back water creeks, there are still some redfish, holding in some of the deeper pockets, along with some black drum mixed in.as you get out of those creeks on some of the oyster beds. There’s been a good push of some smaller trout with some bigger ones mixed in. Most of the trout have been coming off live shrimp with the slip cork while the black drum and redfish in the holes have been eating cut shrimp or mullet or mudminnow on the Carolina rig or Jig head on the bottom.
Along the ICW there as been a good amount of trout with some redfish and black drum. M

Well it's super spring and it's black drum and speckled trout time on the Jettywolf.
Fishing the St. Johns River and St. Johns River inlet jetty rocks. It's high tide to pull the hardware planers and spoons for a lot of Spanish mackerel which is always good for dads and kids.

Fishing has been great over the last 7 days, but totally different this year than previous years. Usually by now the sheepshead have started moving out and the reds are gettin full on hungry and bitin, but we are still catching some sheeps as of yesterday along with more keeper reds, some trout, flounder and even some bull reds. Wind has been pretty brutal, so jetty fishing is hard this time of year, but we are seeing some bull reds move into the jetty along with jack crevalle. The flats have been hit or miss and you just have to really know fish patterns to stay on top of finding them. There are bull reds bitin in spots I haven’t seen before, and the trout seem to be much more active, but we are catchin lots of shorts. It’s not hard to find fish, but it is fun this time of year to figure out what the fish are bitin on and when they are the hungriest. They might love some soft plastics one day, then hate them the next and want some live bait. That might even be the same scenario from morning to afternoon and since I am on the water almost every day, I see the changes. Yesterday was a slam of a great morning with my two customers, but by my afternoon trip with only one customer on the boat, even though we caught 8 different species of fish, all but two were short of being keepers. We did come home with fish for him to take home for dinner, but we fought hard for it!

The last week was challenging yet rewarding. While there were not any “gimmie” days with a lot of effort and some brain power we ended up putting some nice boxes of fish together with a pile of trophy black drum up to 50 pounds.
Even saw our first kingfish and Mahi of the year. I expect summer fishing to come early after next weeks blow. Meaning kings, cobia and plenty of other tasty critters.
While inshore has been booking hot, day by day I can feel it getting less quality bites and more “junk fish” while great to bend a rod I don’t expect to see full fish boxes of great eating.
Spanish mackerel should be showing any day providing great action for kids and family trips. But also a great fall back if the sheepshead trout or redfish are uncooperative.
Skiff trips have been heating up as well focused around the low tide as usual. Redfish bite was very very slow a week or so ago but is recovering nicely.
