Inshore on our 24' the reef has been on fire with almost every species of snapper. A ton of black grouper have been caught because the season is closed. Couple of monster sharks including a monster (10+ft) hammerhead. Cobia are starting to show up, but Im yet to catch a keeper cobia (yet) this year. The offshore bite has been hit or miss, but when it's good, it's gooooood. Just this week we have caught multiple species of tuna, sailfish, mahi, and we are targeting a full moon wahoo tomorrow.

Fishing has been consistently good for Redfish and Sheepshead, with a grab bag of other species. Black Drum, Seatrout, Jacks and Mangrove Snappers have all been in the mix. If the weather stays warm, expect Snook and Tarpon action to heat up quick!

February 2025 The offshore bite around Key West is absolutely red hot right now, with blackfin tuna and cobia stealing the show! Blackfin Tuna Frenzy The blackfin tuna action has been nothing short of spectacular. Schools of these torpedoes are stacking up along the edge of the reef and in deeper blue water, particularly around the humps and wrecks. Anglers live baiting with pilchards, threadfin herring, and small blue runners on light tackle are experiencing non-stop action. The key has been to chum heavy with live baits, creating a slick that pulls them right up to the boat. Once they’re fired up, it’s game on! Fish in the 15–25 lb range are common, with some larger bruisers mixed in. Light fluorocarbon leaders (20-30 lb) and small circle hooks are doing the trick, providing an epic fight that tests every inch of your gear. Cobia Crash the Party While targeting tuna, surprise visits from cobia have added to the excitement. These fish are cruising the same wrecks and structure, often trailing behind rays, sharks, and even alongside the tuna schools. They’re aggressive right now, smashing live baits like pinfish and pilchards without hesitation. Anglers are reporting cobia in the 20–40 lb class, with some true Key West giants pushing beyond that. Keep a pitch rod ready with a live bait hooked up because these fish often appear out of nowhere, especially when you’re chumming heavily. Tips for Success: • Chum Heavy: Live chumming with pilchards keeps both tuna and cobia around the boat.

Warming water has heated up pre-spring fishing With the approach of springtime coming, the fish have been on the move on this warming trend just two weeks ago we were still fixed and a solid winter pattern with excellent catches on hogfish grouper and snapper at winter depth of 45 to 55 feet. There's literally low tides and high skies made for some nice sight fishing opportunities in shore. For some bruiser size cobia When the water rises after these low morning tides The snook and redfish have been to target in the afternoon Using live greenbacks Speckled chop fishing has kept everything going all winter long with greenbacks and shrimp plenty of keeper trout may December and January a big hit with clients that wanted to keep fish. Well, it seems like spring is right around the corner and we should get into some of our best fishing of the year. Let's get you booked in for another great Captains experience

East winds this week will bring in some warm waters and calm seas. The mangrove snapper bite has been very good with pilchards, pinfish and or cut bait. The jack crevel have taken over the gulf of America in strong numbers. The average size is 8 pounds with some 12 pounders mixed in. The Cobia are still hanging around the shallow wrecks. Fishing will only continue getting better later in the months coming.

Took a short trip out to the reef and although the water was cold, the bite was hot! Fishing is great over here, even in the winter - hit us up! Found the Flounder last week not far off the beaches. They were eating cut bait AND soft plastics. The winds kept us inside the intracoastal, but we still got some action in the protected waters. Took a nice couple on a half day trip and landed some nice Mango Snapper AND a kicker Tripletail.

These beasts were landed just after hurricane Ian ran through. We headed out early on the day after land fall. Pilchards had moved into the creaks by the thousands making for easy bait opportunities. After one throw we loaded up on jumbo razors . Then headed to some wrecks just passed the reefs in Islamorada. The water was milky but calm , stirred up from the week of high winds . On the first drift we hooked the first monster on one of the lighter rods with a 20 pound leader . After a nearly 20 min battle we were finally gaining back line . Finally we made it to the weight and I Began carefully hand lining the fish to the boat . Finally after we got the gaff in angler and Captain both let put a sigh of relief followed by the crack of several high fives between all aboard the Papa Jack 4 ! Best part is second drop we boated a second pompano shortly after . This time rigged a bit heavier ! Between the multiple cold fronts and north to North west winds . It has made for perfect condition for targeting shallow water mutton's . We have had several double digit keeper mutton trips and even seeing a few over 20 pounds . Additionally having shots at everything from red grouper , Goliath grouper , lane snapper , and mackerel in between mutton's bites. Keeping the box full of variety and keeping anglers rods bent. We also had a few gulf trips later in the month in beautiful calm seas . Where the Spanish mackerel run has kept drags screaming and everyone with a perm-a grin ! In addition to jumbo mangroves , and even some Cobia opportunities. Over all the new year has been full of great action and many memories made aboard the Papa Jack 4. We looked forward to seeing what the rest of this winter season has to offer !

Fishing the bay for giant sheep head is now on! Fast action white trout especially for the kids is doing very well this winter too. Some pompano and Spanish mackerel are being caught fishing for white trout. Gulf fishing for flounder and fast fun light tackle reef fish like speckled rock hind, scamp grouper, and vermillion snapper on calm seas days is "the easy button". Red grouper is now open and there's good ones to be kept especially on a five or six hour trip getting down the beach on some good natural rock bottom reefs.
