After the record Christmas cold front the water here dropped over 10 degrees in a couple of days. But, the Red Tide dissipated and left cleaner water. The local reefs(and hard bottom areas withing a couple miles) have been best. Lots of Key West Grunts, along with a steady sheepshead bite and occasional Redfish, Flounder and other stuff. The Sheepshead bite should only get better and the Flounder normally start going off as well. Should be a decent start to 2023 in terms of nearshore fishing over here out of Madeira Beach.

Fishing report from Dalton G. in Golden Meadow, Louisiana

Launched out of Golden Meadow, Louisiana to target redfish. We fished the marsh hitting points. Didn't have much luck. So I changed tactics to look for deeper moving water with structure. We free lined live minnows into the structure and pulled out 25 redfish. All redfish caught 16" to 27". Day 2 of the trip we decided to go after some bull reds. So we cast netted live mullet then traveled to the mouth of a deep cut that empties into Lake Raccourcie. Used cut mullet on bottom and caught 5 bull reds and a few bull sharks. After half of the day spent on fighting bulls we decided to head back to the spot we caught and released all the slot redfish the day before. We showed up and found the slot reds right where we left them.

The report in the last couple weeks is about the same. Once all the fish get in their winter time pattern it normally lasts until about March depending on the weather.

e have had some cold mornings in Sarasota Florida and the water is cold! We ended the year with water temperatures in the 50's in some places. With these cold water temperatures our customers enjoyed targeting Sheepshead, Snappers and Grunts on our nearshore reefs. On our warmer days we focused on fishing the docks and rocks in areas that the water was warmer in Sarasota Bay and were able to find luck targeting Redfish and Snook! We also have found a few Pompano as well as schools of big Jack Crevalle in our back country creeks.

String stretching!!! Man we are whacking them sheepshead!!! That Biloxi bay fishing aboard the whipasnapa whipping sheeps is fun yeah!!! Stretched strings bent rods & drag screaming action for sure!!! Couple days was EVERY cast!!! The Biloxi’s back bay is one of the fishiest places along the gulf coast for sure!!! That fresh pinched dead shrimp dropped w/ a lil weight on a barnacle incrusted structure has been the ticket!!! It’s been typical winter fishing lately the 5 fish that are most common to our water is speckled trout, flounder, black drum, red drum & sheepshead very few if any trash fish. So when the thump thumps it’s usually a good fish!!! You’ll come get you some!! Have a blessed and merry Christmas and new year!!
