Fishing has gotten hot. Winds have been blowing for weeks and has kept us out of the ocean. We have been inshore fishing which has been producing flounder, redfish, specked trout, lady fish and some black drum. Top water bites have been fun early and as the sun gets up we start fishing deeper to get the bites.

Trout fishing has continued to be outstanding, free-lining live croaker in 3-4ft of water. Redfish and black drum are schooled up on the surface and can be very easily sight-casted with a live shrimp!

Fishing has been good when the bite turns on in Morehead city. we've been dealing with extremely high winds and dirty water, 2 straight weeks of downpours and SW winds 15-25kts have made it tough, but using cut bait under corks, on protected banks, oyster rocks, and drop offs has produced solid bites!

Fishing has been real good on croker for trout and live shrimp under popping cork. Trout bite hit hard early morning on croker, and live shrimp later morning. Top water lures early morning have been good as well for trout. Reds have been getting more plentiful. Cutt bait using skipjack or mullet, after 10:30am as been working well. I have had a lot of luck on popping cork early with live shrimp. Black drum on dead shrimp has been good, just have to find the school of them

Fishing has been hit and miss. Usually been able to put decent box's together just somedays slower than others. Calling for rain chances the beginning of next week witch would really help. Reds and trout are the main focus but switching up daily depending on conditions.

Although my traditional fishing areas for this time of year aren't producing very well, I have found some other areas that are producing . Some customers are wanting to only catch redfish and I have been fortunate to locate some . Some customers have been wanting speckled trout. And some days they cooperate and we are able to get our limit early before it gets too hot. And some days we have to work for them. Speckled trout have been best on live croaker. And the redfish have been consistent on popping cork and shrimp.

Bull Reds, Bull Reds, Bull Reds It's very hot outside and and the bay water temperature is threw the roof. Finding moving water has been the key to success. Fishing deep grass flats close to the jetties has produced some keeper trout in a mostly dead bay. The one thing that has kept my clients and I going through this heat is the bull reds. Anywhere there is deep water and good current bull reds have been crushing their favorite prey. They have been plentiful with opportunities to catch them on live bait, plastics, and even fly if an angler can show some patience. Long fights and screaming drags is a great way to end the Summer!

One good thing about this wind, it has heated things up! Literally and figuratively. The backwater bite has been solid! Topwater action and shallow fished weedless plastics and spoons have been producing. Loads of bait in the backbays, Trout in my immediate area are still hard to find. However the action is fire up the Neuse nearby. Topwater Trout, slot drum and a solid showing of trophy size Reds are being produced on topwater. I'll be transitioning to that area as I begin to run my Trophy Redfish charters in August

Fishing report from Jon H. in Galveston, Texas

Fishing has been excellent the last few weeks on Galveston bay. Lots of trout and redfish up shallow on sandbars in clean water has been the ticket for wading following the schools of mullet. Trout and bull reds have been thick in the surf when the wind allows. Mid bay reefs have also produced a solid trout bite in 4-6' of water.

While the fishing for Bull Reds hasn't been what was expected this time of year the other species have been really active. Night fishing at the causeways has been good for Snook with an occasional Red. I had a charter with international customers following Icast last week and they caught 19 species. One was the monster Barracuda which ate another one which was a permit the customer had battled for 5 minutes and had to the boat twice before it became bait. The reds have been there during prime tide times. Still getting some slot size reds in the lagoon on artificial with an occasional trout.

Snapper season is starting to wind down but there are still some fish out there if you are willing to move around a bit. Inshore the Jack crevalles are name of the game this time of year. They will pop up around the bay and you better be ready with a swim bait or topwater plug to get after them. The heat has the redfish and trout bite slowed tremendously but some good fish can still be caught early morning or late evening.
