The bite has been good early and late. Summer time pattern so get out early or late afternoon just before dark. Coordinate with the tides. Outgoing early and incoming late is best for reds and trout. It's a new moon so the tides will be strong. We've been experiencing low low tides the last few weeks with a west to south west wind that's pushing the water out. Hit the creeks and flats early in the falling tide and you should do well on the reds, drum and flounder. Shrimp are still the bait of choice but the mullet run will kick off in the next few weeks so expect a shift in baits. Black drum, flounder and trout can be found in deep corners along the creek bends with a strong current on jigheads or circle hooks with a small splitshot .

Summer fishing has been in full swing here in Sarasota, Florida. been busy as ever! Our customers continue to enjoy targeting Snook, Trout and Redfish in our passes and along our beaches. A highlight lately has been our Mangrove Snapper fishing, they have really started to steal the show with their wonderful table fare. Our Summer Tarpon migration is still going strong with large numbers of Tarpon congregating during the outgoing tides in the passes along Siesta Key, Lido Key and Longboat Key!

Welcome to July! It has been hot here in the Nature Coast. Thank goodness scallop season is here. If tides permit, you may be able to pry a redfish or two off the mangrove shorelines before the water warms up. Snook are around as well and a well placed free-lined pin fish under the mangroves can entice them to play. Offshore, there are still cobia on the deeper rocks and wrecks. There has been some " gumbo" that has been on the 20-25 foot range that has slowed the grouper / snapper bite down. Add a full moon and it has been tough to put together a good cooler lately. Scallops have been good, bad and sometimes non-existent. We have been getting them in 4-5 feet of water on the incoming tide. They are smaller but that should improve as the season progresses. The high tide is is in the morning this week so that will help those trying to get a few reds before cooling off in the gulf.
