Fishing has been getting better and better with the water temperatures coming down after summer. Good numbers of Redfish, Trout, Flounder, Eating sized Black Drum, and even Sheepshead have been coming in. We have been fishing both Upper Galveston Bay and West Galveston Bay.

Fall is a magical time if year on the flats. As the cold fronts begin to hit and the water temperature drops, the shallow grass flats of mosquito lagoon begin to flood with the larger redfish and and numbers of trout that have been in deeper water most of the summer. The seatrout spawn throughout the late fall, and into early spring. It is not uncommon to find a group of 20 or more over-slot trout sunning on a patch of hard bottom ready to inhale almost any presentation. As for the redfish, instead of the singles, pairs, and small groups of mostly slot fish we find in the warmer months, we now get the opporunity to target redfish upto and over 30” in less than a foot of water and find schools of more than 50 redfish cruising around together. And last but not least, with the cooler water temperaturs, the fish feed on the flats all day long! Book now to chase the schools of shimmering copper redfish and wolf like packs of gator trout!! With the fall season upon us, the heat has broken and the weather is nice. We are getting a steady catch of Speckled Seatrout of nice size. We are also catching the juvenile Tarpon around the same areas. The Snook are biting pretty good you just have to get them to the boat before the sharks can get them. Overall, the keys are pretty quiet as far as tourist go, so we have lots of fishing grounds that are virtually private to us this time of year.

On September 30th, a group of four went out on a charter to Baffin Bay. The goal of the trip was to catch some redfish, trout, and drum. We started fishing right away and had some success catching redfish. After a few hours, we had landed quite a few redfish. We also caught a few trout and drum while we were out. Unfortunately, while we were out, heavy rain storms chased us away from Baffin Bay. We took the opportunity to take a break and wait for the rain to pass. Once the rain had passed, we returned to Baffin Bay and were able to finish up our redfish limit. We were back to weigh in by noon. All in all, our charter was a success. Despite the heavy rain storms, we were able to get our redfish limit and get back to weigh in on time. We look forward to our next charter and the chance to catch even more fish. Captain Nino
