About Your Trip

If you're looking to experience the thrill of deep-sea fishing off Florida’s Gulf Coast, Captain Richard’s offshore charters are the real deal. With over 40 years of fishing experience in and around Tampa Bay, Captain Richard knows exactly where to find the action and how to get you hooked up. From bottom fishing the reefs for Grouper to trolling blue water for Tuna, these trips offer the kind of full-throttle fishing that offshore anglers live for.

You'll be heading out on a 30’ Robalo center console built in 2020. This boat is spacious, smooth-riding, and fully outfitted with everything needed for serious offshore fishing. With room for up to six anglers, it's perfect for small groups or families with kids. The vessel features top-tier navigational electronics, outriggers, downriggers, a live bait well, radar, and a wireless trolling motor to keep you dialed in on the bite. There’s also a private toilet onboard, along with an ice box to keep your drinks and catch chilled throughout the day.

Captain Richard offers several offshore options, ranging from nearshore runs to deep water adventures up to 80 miles offshore. The 9-hour trip departs at 5:30 AM and takes you up to 30 miles out, where you’ll target species like Red Snapper, Gag Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and Blackfin Tuna. You’ll use trolling and bottom fishing techniques, depending on what’s biting and where the fish are holding.

If you want to fish farther offshore, the 10-hour trip leaves at 5:00 AM and goes up to 60 miles out. This option opens up access to more remote structures and deeper reefs, offering even better chances at big Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, and Tuna. For those who want to go all in, the 12-hour full-day trip departs at 4:00 AM and pushes out to 80 miles into the deep, bountiful waters of the Gulf. Out here, you’ll be targeting the same species but with greater size, more numbers, and the added excitement of fishing in true deep water.

Throughout the trip, you’ll be using top-quality Penn and Shimano rods and reels, with live bait prepared in advance to maximize your time on the water. Fishing licenses are fully covered, and at the end of the trip, your catch will be cleaned and filleted by the first mate. The crew also provides fresh water and light snacks, though you're welcome to bring along your own food and drinks to keep you fueled for the day. A hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen are also highly recommended—once you’re offshore, the Florida sun is no joke.

Target species vary by season but include: Gag Grouper, Greater Amberjack, Blackfin Tuna, Vermilion Snapper, King Mackerel, African Pompano, Cobia, Jack Crevalle, and Mangrove Snapper. Whether you're trolling for Tuna or dropping heavy tackle over deep structure for monster Grouper, Captain Richard will make sure you're in the best position to land something worth bragging about.

With years of experience and a passion for putting people on fish, Captain Richard’s offshore trips are the perfect way to experience the Gulf’s deep-sea fishing potential. All you need to bring is your lunch, your sun protection, and your sense of adventure. The rest is taken care of. The first mate works hard to make sure your day goes smoothly, and tips of around 20% are always appreciated.

Captain Richard was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He grew up on flat bottomed shrimp boats and Jon boats. His school bus would pick him up in front of his house which was attached to a bait shop. His charter company was born out of the nostalgic experiences growing up on Tampa Bay.

Scrapping barnacles off of boat bottoms, bailing the Jon boats out, and cleaning props were regular chores during grade school. By the age of 8,
he was picking shrimp as a deckhand. He also would help his mother sell bait at Rita’s Bait & Tackle. Some weekends he’d be selling oranges and prawns just outside of the 7-Eleven on Tierra Verde’s Pinellas Bayway. At the age of 12, he was the youngest in his scuba class to receive an open water PADI certification. At the age of 15, he built his very own 28′ Shrimp trawler.

He ran the boat solo or with his younger brother or best friends through out high school.

What makes you different from other guides?
I really enjoy what I do still. Many Captains seem to grumpy and have chip on their shoulders---Guiding for especially for long offshore trips is a lot of work and can be very tiring when doing high volumes of trips. I limit the number of trips so it can enjoyable for everyone and less of a grind.
