If you’re ready to chase some of New England’s most exciting inshore game fish, Captain John’s Striped Bass and Bluefish trips out of Gloucester offer fast-paced action along the rocky coastline, tidal rips, and productive feeding grounds of Massachusetts Bay. These waters are famous for strong runs of Striped Bass and aggressive schools of Bluefish that deliver hard fights and plenty of excitement.

Striped Bass in Gloucester commonly average 10–20 pounds, with the potential for much larger fish, while Bluefish typically range from 5–10 pounds and are known for their powerful strikes and relentless fights. Together they make for an action-packed day targeting two of the region’s most popular sportfish.

Captain John adjusts the strategy based on tides, bait activity, and current fishing conditions. Depending on what’s producing, you may fish with live bait, natural bait, artificial lures, or troll to cover water and locate feeding fish. With multiple productive areas around Gloucester, the plan is always to stay mobile and put you in the best position for action.

Trips range from 5 to 9 hours, giving you the flexibility to choose how much time you want on the water. The 5-hour trip focuses on prime feeding windows, while the 7- and 9-hour options allow more time to explore additional locations and dial in the bite throughout the day.

You’ll fish aboard a federally registered vessel that comfortably accommodates up to six anglers and is fully equipped for a productive day on the water. We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
