About Your Trip

Every spring, one of the most exciting freshwater migrations in the Southeast takes place as massive numbers of American and Hickory Shad push up the Roanoke River to spawn. Join Captain Nick during this incredible run and experience some of the fastest-paced light-tackle fishing North Carolina has to offer.

These trips are perfect for anglers of all experience levels. Using ultralight spinning tackle, spoons, darts, grubs, and jigs, you'll target hard-fighting fish that routinely put
a bend in the rod and make the most of the river's current. The action can be nonstop when the migration peaks, with double hookups always a possibility and triple-digit catch days common on longer trips when conditions are right.

Shad fishing is one of the best introductions to river fishing for beginners, but experienced anglers love it too. Fly anglers are welcome to bring their own gear, and those who prefer spinning tackle will find quality equipment ready and waiting onboard.

Trips are available in both 4-hour and 6-hour formats. The 4-hour trip offers a fun, action-packed introduction to the fishery, while the 6-hour trip provides additional time to stay on active schools and take full advantage of the migration.

Fishing takes place aboard a spacious Carolina Skiff equipped with quality electronics, comfortable seating, and everything needed for a productive day on the river. Rods, reels, tackle, lures, and instruction are included. Simply bring a valid North Carolina fishing license, weather-appropriate clothing, snacks, and drinks, and get ready for one of the most entertaining fisheries in the state.
